As we transition into the fall, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and embrace the season of gratitude. The pace of life often keeps us focused on the next milestone, but fall invites us to slow down and appreciate what we’ve accomplished, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the relationships that sustain us. Rest is not a luxury; it’s essential. Taking moments to recharge allows us to show up stronger for ourselves, our communities, and the work we are passionate about. As the leaves change and the air cools, let’s take a moment to acknowledge how far we’ve come and center gratitude in our daily lives. This fall, we encourage you to reflect on what fills your heart, gives you purpose, and deserves your thanks. Let’s carry that energy forward as we continue to grow, build, and support one another. #bayareablackleaders #restup #resteasy

Rest is essential for everyone, but especially for the Black community, it holds a deeper, transformative power. As discussed in Jillian Wilson’s article on HuffPost, rest is not simply a break; it is an act of resistance against systems that demand constant labor. Activist Tricia Hersey, founder of the Nap Ministry, leads this movement, stating that "Rest is Resistance" to combat the oppressive "grind culture." Black people have historically been tied to labor, and the idea that rest equals laziness is rooted in this legacy. Natasha Reynolds, a psychotherapist, and other Black therapists emphasize that this movement helps Black individuals unlearn toxic beliefs linking labor to self-worth. Taking rest enables Black people to reclaim their humanity, dismantle generational trauma, and live more fully. Rest is not just about sleep; it can be anything from journaling to going for a walk. It’s an inexpensive and accessible form of self-care that restores energy and well-being. For Black individuals, rest is not just a luxury but a necessary tool for liberation and survival. Rest is not selfish—it's empowering and crucial for healing. https://lnkd.in/ggJ-fVNb
