Bay ABA provides Applied Behavior Analytic (ABA) support to individuals impacted by Autism. We focus on providing functional behavior assessment, empirically based treatments, and an emphasis on caregiver involvement to help our clients fulfill their full potential. We utilize common ABA methodologies including both Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Pivotal Response Training (PRT) to focus on the development of verbal behavior and the reduction of challenging behaviors. Bay ABA emphasizes a fun and engaging experience for the clients we serve to maximize their ability to learn new skills and become more independent in their everyday lives.

Within cooperative play with others, children learn to adapt to changes in the plan they have and work on accepting new ideas. There are many instances when children are playing with others where things might not go their way. This is a great time to work on coping with those unexpected situations and learning to work with them! Play with adults is a great time to target changes in routines/rigidity. Adults are usually flexible and if challenges arise we can “reset” the scene after de-escalations come up to practice again. We as adults can set up scenarios to target changes in routine/unexpected changes in play. Perhaps you usually play a pretend game for a restaurant and you always order a hamburger. During play you can change up your order (ex: “Hmm today I want a meat sandwich” or “I’m going to order eggs today.”) This subtle change may not seem large, but is a great way to make small changes for kids who have more rigidity. As kids progress in accepting small changes, we can add in larger changes, such as adult and child changing roles (ex: if the kiddo usually is the chef, perhaps the adult is the chef first, and then the kiddo gets to be the chef after). You can also change the type of pretend play within the same context (ex: If you usually play restaurant instead try recording a cooking show for your pretend play. If you usually play dress up and runway show, play shopping at the mall, and dress up with other clothes as if you’re trying on clothes at a store). You can also teach coping skills during play. If you’re playing a board game like “Sorry” where your kid has a difficult time with getting sent back to home, model using coping skills and describing your behaviors if this happens to you during the game. For example, “Oh no! You landed on me. That makes me feel so sad. What should I do?” Your child may be able to guide you through coping skills with your assistance as needed (ex: deep breath, count to 10, ask for a break, etc.). Kids are always watching, so the more we model coping skills in the moment as well as adding in verbal communication for our internal thoughts (or potentially what they usually think), the easier it is for them to learn! This skill set combined with role plays can be a very useful and fun way to target coping skills! Information provided by Elizabeth Grishaw, M.Ed, BCBA

Two years ago we achieved accreditation through the BHCOE! Each accreditation lasts 2 years. This year we have been working to achieve another 2 years! We are so excited to announce our 2024 accreditation! An accreditation through the Behavioral Health Center Of Excellence indicates that through an evaluation by an independent 3rd party evaluator, Bay ABA demonstrates a commitment to quality services and to continuous improvement within ABA. An accreditation is based on the standards outlined by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). For more information about the BHCOE accreditation check out the link below. https://bhcoe.org/

Congratulations to Bay ABA’s BT of the month Gabriela Vazquez! Gabby is an absolute pleasure to work. Her confidence in the field is noted across the board with pairing with clients, implementation of programming and difficult behavior plans, communication across all team members (both parents and supervisors), and training new BTs that come to observe her sessions. Her ability to come onto a case whether it’s a permanent placement or a temporary one and easily implement programs is commendable. Her ability to enter any household and always bring a comforting presence for caregivers is also commendable. Gabby's contributions undoubtedly make a significant difference, and her positive impact resonates throughout Bay ABA. We are lucky to have you Gabby! Thank you for all you do for our clients!
