Electrification has become a norm in retail spaces like grocery stores, delivery and fulfillment centers. However, managing the charging of battery-powered equipment, robots, floor cleaners, mobility carts, etc. is a challenge at scale. Retail stores need to address operational and technical challenges, such as how to charge different vehicles with different batteries before the end of a shift, determining when batteries need to be replaced and what training employees need to safely keep devices up and running.
This Electronic Design article explores these tradeoffs. An exciting development is the collaboration between WiBotic and BattGenie Inc. By optimizing charging algorithms, batteries can last up to 2.2x longer before reaching 80% of their nominal capacity. This translates to significant cost savings for businesses, including a reduction in downtime, less frequent maintenance, and lower logistics costs. Optimizing charging and fleet-wide battery management is crucial for automation. Check out the full article to learn more! #automation #retail #electrification
