The 119th Congress has quickly taken up the critical issue of wildland fire management in the U.S. As of February 10, 2025, there were at least 27 proposed House and Senate bills that directly or indirectly affect wildland fire management. Each presents opportunities for companies and organizations to influence their development as they progress through the legislative process and formulate strategies to anticipate and prepare for potential outcomes. As suggested here and outlined in this 2022 Business of Automated Mobility Forum presentation – The Importance of a Cross-Domain Digital Infrastructure (https://lnkd.in/ejJTHhga), the “higher volumes of vehicles at lower altitudes and closer quarters” that come with Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) will see a historic convergence of autonomous aircraft, ground vehicles, and smart built-world structures dependent on and serving as data sources for the same intelligent infrastructure systems. Ken Erney, thank you and Unmanned Experts for this well-researched and timely article.?I appreciated the discussion of the importance of digital infrastructure and the capabilities Unmanned Experts is developing in support of these "highways in the sky." ? I also believe the uniquely low altitude domain where large numbers of #drones and #eVTOLs will be operating offers opportunities to coordinate #AAM and #UTM digital infrastructure development and deployment with similar digital infrastructure requirements for assisted and #autonomous ground vehicles and smart structures/cities (2022 Business of Automated Mobility Forum – "The Importance of a Cross-Domain Digital Infrastructure" - https://lnkd.in/ejJTHhga). These new ‘highways in the sky” will also need similar integrated capabilities to those we have become accustomed to in the traditional national airspace system (NAS): (a) Strategic level preflight planning, route approval, area reservation and 4-D trajectory deconfliction, (b) Operational level capabilities to initiate, coordinate, and communicate inflight changes in response to the dynamics of “real life,” and (c) Tactical level awareness and decision support for the last line of deconfliction via vehicle-to-vehicle-to infrastructure (V2V2I) enabled onboard coordination and collision avoidance (CCAS) systems. The recent joint Unmanned Experts - Ciconia Flights flight demonstration at the Texas Department of Public Safety 2024 Public Safety Drone Expo (https://lnkd.in/eDRTRKG9) was a great example of these integrated Strategic, Operational, and Tactical levels of cooperative airspace management in action.
