We were honored with a visit by MA Sec. of Economic Development Yvonne Hao on Monday. We are excited to work with her team to help harness the transformative potential of technology, innovation, and especially AI to help Massachusetts grow its economy. Sec. Hao toured our Somerville accelerator with Tom Moran of Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, guided by Carl Hoffman, Steve Cohen, and Catherine Havasi of BasisTech. Sec. Hao met with three startups building the next generation of manufacturing, public safety, and cybersecurity technology: Cyrus Shaoul of Leela AI, Matthew White of Multitude Insights,?Brian Carrier, and Larissa Duzhansky of Sleuth Kit Labs. The Boston Globe published a story on Leela AI and its CTO Henry Minsky, the son of MIT professor Marvin Minsky, who is often called the “Father of AI.” The story relates how Marvin developed his ground-breaking symbolic AI technology in part by watching how Henry and his sister Julie learned about the world as toddlers. Now Leela AI is among a new wave of AI companies bringing back symbolic AI, but this time integrated with neural networks. Leela AI’s neurosymbolic hybrid enables faster training, deeper insights, and improved AI verification and explainability. The Globe story breaks the news that Leela AI just had its first patent approved for visual intelligence.
