These bags provide new moms with valuable resources, including informational literature on milestones, local resources, a free book, and more. Plus, we help them sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free monthly books to children aged 0-5.

History in the making! This Saturday, The Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin just hosted the FIRST-EVER New Mexico POWER Bags Packing Party! In under an hour, with the incredible support of JF Maddox, students from High School, Houston Middle School, and Southern Heights, and the Salvation Army, we packed 500 POWER Bags! These bags will be given to new moms at Covenant Hospital and local pediatricians to support early childhood literacy. We are so excited to announce our first New Mexico POWER Bag Packing Party! These bags provide new mom’s with informational literature on milestones and how to create their own library at home and so much more. We begin by providing their first book and help to sign them up for The Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Many hands make light work.

Last Friday, the Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin was honored to join Author Rosie Talley at Burnet Elementary, where she read her book "Linus the Troll" to the kindergarten class of Burnet. The kids had a great time listening and engaging with the book. We loved to see kids get excited about reading.
