“A Love Letter to Village Life” Rarely do you discover a place that pulls you in with such rapture, you find yourself returning back after only one month’s time. This is what happened after our first visit to The Post House Inn, in the summer of 2022. Since then we’ve returned 3 times, each more enchanting than the last. ?Once only a month later, when we packed up on a whim and squeezed in one last summer trip, before narrowly escaping Hurricane Ian. I should mention, it is no short journey, we drive over 800 miles each way from St. Louis, MO to Mount Pleasant, SC, its name preceding it. Some might even say we are fanatics, we prefer enthusiastic. The allure of this place is impossible to describe with words or simply illustrate through photos. It is a full body experience in which all five senses are necessary to immerse yourself in the affair. Over our stays, I documented some of the details, the moments, and the light, that makes the experience unique. Unfortunately, your eyes cannot smell the nearby flowering magnolias, or the savory aromas of the upscale restaurant operating on the first floor of this century old house - hosting just 7 guest rooms above. Nor can they hear the clanking of the dishes, or the murmuring of the voices, as you descend the original staircase late morning, while the staff busily prepares for lunch service and you draft off their intoxicating energy. Also, they cannot feel the weight of the brass key in your pocket, or taste the freshly baked croissant delivered to you straight from the oven, as you exchange pleasantries with your host. And I would be remiss not to mention the sweet musk from this 120 year old structure which embeds itself in your clothes and your memory, like an old friend you won’t easily forget. So naturally, when you return back home and unpack your luggage, you find yourself home sick for a place you’ve only lived in a handful of days, but have come to grow fond. That is the allure. You live here, you take up residence, you become a patron. And for a time, you melt away to a place that only exits in a fairy tale, unconstrained by the exhausting state of modernity. A place where human connection still reigns, and neighbors exchange gossip as you pass by on your morning walk. Where time feels slower, and more abundant. A place you have to experience for yourself to understand, and even then leaves you longing for more. A place I can give you just a glimpse, but am honored to do so. A place I will return, no doubt, and hope to see you there - For the full photo essay - https://lnkd.in/gybMzWVf Location: The Post House Inn, Basic Projects Photography: Ashley Gieseking
