Remember to always pick the proper FR clothing for your job. Check certification standards! Not all FR's are created equal. NFPA 2112 Standards for flash fire protection in oil and gas or chemical industries. NFPA 70E Protection against arc flash hazards in electrical work. ASTM F1506 General FR clothing standards for electrical and utility workers. Proper care and maintenance are essential to ensure its durability, effectiveness, and continued protection. Here’s a checklist for maintaining fire retardant clothing (FRC) and a list of safe detergents: Daily tasks Inspect garments for: Holes, tears, or frayed edges. Signs of chemical, oil, or grease stains. Damage to closures (zippers, buttons, or Velcro). Check labels for care instructions. After Each Use Remove contaminants immediately (e.g., oil, grease, flammable residues). Wash garments separately from non-FR clothing. Use a washing machine set to warm water (≤140°F/60°C). Add a recommended detergent (see list below). Avoid: Bleach or fabric softeners. High-alkaline or enzyme-heavy detergents. Drying Dry on low or medium heat, or air-dry. Avoid high heat and over-drying. Monthly or Periodic Tasks Perform a thorough inspection for: Signs of wear or degradation. Permanently embedded stains (replace garment if necessary). If stains persist, send to a professional cleaning service. Storage Store clean and dry garments in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. Safe Detergents for FRC These detergents are mild, non-enzymatic, and free of fabric softeners or harsh chemicals: Liquid Detergents: Tide Free & Gentle All Free Clear Cheer Free Wisk Deep Clean Free & Pure Powder Detergents: Tide Powder (without bleach) Arm & Hammer Powder (unscented) Specialty FR Detergents: TECGEN Laundry Detergent Carhartt FR Wash KleenGuard? ?An arc flash isn’t just a spark — it’s a dangerous burst that can cause fires, melt clothes and burn skin. Most burn injuries happen when regular clothing catches fire, not from the arc itself. Be like Tom. Suit up in the right PPE and stay safe. https://lnkd.in/efCcmMcS

Safety is paramount in any work environment, whether it's an office, a construction site, or a laboratory. It's essential to adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. This includes wearing appropriate protective gear, following established procedures, and being aware of potential hazards. Regular safety training and awareness programs can help reinforce these practices and promote a culture of safety within an organization. Remember, safety isn't just a priority; it's a mindset that should be integrated into every aspect of work.
