Thank you Pat Tillman Foundation for this Challenge Coin. My PhD was one of the hardest things I've done. There were times I thought I wanted to quit, but I didn't give up. Being part of this community of scholars helped me profoundly. The support I got from the foundation and the network of scholars (some of whom are close friends) played a pivotal part in my success. I'm one of those people who have a hard time internalizing my successes. But I'm going to make sure I don't forget this. A big lesson I learned from my PhD is that I can take on any challenge and overcome any obstacle. That I can persevere. That's a lesson I've fully taken to heart, especially as I embark on a new chapter of my life with Basata. Building a company is difficult. Startups are hard, and the odds are not great. But I don't care about the odds. During my PhD, I heard many times that statistically, those who work full-time while pursuing a PhD typically don't finish. I didn't let that stop me and I didn't give up. I beat the odds. It's going to be the same here. I, along with my cofounders and everyone else at Basata, are fully committed to making it a success. We're going to give it our all and we are going to win.
