Saving Brookline’s Historic Beech Trees: Bartlett’s Scientific Approach ?? ? Brookline’s iconic European beech trees, some of the oldest in the U.S., are under threat from Beech Leaf Disease (BLD), caused by a microscopic nematode, Litylenchus crenatae mccannii. This disease, first detected in 2020, is damaging the trees at Longwood Mall. ? Bartlett Tree Experts is leading the fight against BLD. Our plant pathologist, Dr. Beth Brantley, is using Broadform, an innovative treatment that targets nematodes directly. We’ve seen promising results in slowing disease progression and preserving these beloved trees. ? While BLD continues to challenge Brookline’s beeches, Bartlett is committed to applying the latest science to manage the disease and ensure the long-term care of these historic trees. ? ?? Bartlett Tree Experts is proud to partner in the Greater Phoenix Urban Forestry Accelerator, a $5 million initiative funded by the USDA Forest Service. In collaboration with ASU and Unlimited Potential, we're developing a desert-adapted arboriculture curriculum in Spanish to support bilingual arborists. Our commitment includes leading five 1.5-day training labs, leveraging our experience from over 100 locations across North America and our training site in Mexico. As Bryant Sunderman, our arborist representative, said, "We’re excited to shape a diverse and capable workforce by teaching in native languages."
