November is #EpilepsyAwarenessMonth, a time to bring attention to a neurological condition that is often overlooked and misunderstood, despite the fact that one in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. Although #epilepsy is common, every case is unique—and so is every patient. That's why the Barrow Epilepsy Center offers a complete spectrum of epilepsy care, from advanced #neurodiagnostics to state-of-the-art treatments. As an accredited Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, we're equipped to evaluate and treat the most complex epilepsy cases. To better understand each patient's #seizures, we have specialized equipment to monitor seizures as they happen. Our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is home to 12 beds wired with continuous video-#electroencephalography (EEG), which allows us to measure electrical activity in the brain. Barrow is also home to #Arizona's first #magnetoencephalography (MEG) system, which records the brain's magnetic fields—offering a new level of precision in epilepsy evaluation. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient, under the guidance of our highly skilled and compassionate #epileptologists. Treatment may include medication, surgical procedures, or a combination of both. Patients who are candidates for #epilepsysurgery also have access to our world-class #neurosurgeons, who are experienced in surgical resection, disconnection surgery, and #neuromodulation.
