Two insightful days at Bar Convent Brooklyn 2024. We connected with #tequila, #rum, #brandy, and #whiskey producers from around the world! Andrew Wiehebrink from Independent Stave Company and Jared Himstedt, Gabriel RiCharde, and Alexander Elrod from Balcones Distilling presented their research on the influence of storage conditions on the maturation of barrel-aged spirits. Their findings prove that environment and warehouse microclimate, where spirits age, play a significant role in the final flavor and nearly 100% of the color, yield, and proof. Reflecting on a fantastic trip to the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits Industry conference last week for my company BarrelSense Inc. Prior to the conference kicking off, I visited and had a great experience at Pursuit Spirits, meeting Kenny Coleman from the Bourbon Pursuit Podcast. The conference was filled with valuable reconnections and insightful exchanges, especially catching up with Joseph Bongiovi and meeting Fred Noe. The trip concluded with a memorable blind bourbon tasting at the Frankfort Bourbon Society, reuniting with friends such Will Prible, Amzie and Jeremy. Overall, the past few weeks being at the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) conference in Denver, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States Conference in San Diego, and the Beam Industry event in Lexington, was a blend of professional enrichment, personal reunions, fun and new connections, highlighting the vibrant spirit of the spirits community. Connor Milne, William Fay, Jeremy Grunewald and Donald Snyder, I enjoyed hanging out with you guys at all three conferences.
