A dangerous Arctic blast is about to hit Metro Detroit with potentially fatal wind chills dropping to -30°F starting tonight. Barns animals are especially vulnerable to extreme cold. Even hardy breeds can suffer severe frostbite, hypothermia, or death in these temperatures. Our beloved Durden is facing serious mobility challenges affecting his front legs. He's experiencing difficulty walking and bearing weight, likely due to severe arthritis in his shoulder and elbow joints. Due to his unique medical situation, he cannot undergo sedation for imaging, making diagnosis and treatment more complex. While he's shown some improvement with initial medications, Durden needs additional treatments and therapies to help him recover. We transitioned him to an isolation stall, with his best friend Marla, where he can receive specialized physical therapy and focused care. Her recovery was tough, requiring months of therapy and testing prosthetics before she could walk again. Today, Lola is a happy, playful girl who loves human attention—so much so, we call her "Princess Lola"! She’s a determined and courageous soul who’s overcome so much in her young life. ??Urgent Update on Gunther ?? Our sweet boy Gunther is fighting for his life and needs your help at Michigan State University’s veterinary hospital. Recently found unresponsive, he’s been battling dangerous glucose drops and seizures. While he’s stable now, his medical journey is far from over – we’re anxiously awaiting MRI results, treating an infection between his neck vertebrae, and providing constant monitoring. But Gunther is showing his warrior spirit! He’s eating more, responding to treatment, and giving us hope with every small improvement. Though he still needs help standing, his resilient spirit reminds us why we never give up on these precious souls.
