Always neat to see local industry leaders like Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc. able to get inside a classroom! Barberton City School District does a great job creating connections and building interest in local careers.
It was great to host Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc. today at Barberton Middle School. We celebrated manufacturing month by learning about Polymers and the Future! Special thanks to Paul Merda, Katie Kelley, and Kate DeAngelis for your investment in the Magic City! #careerpathways #iteachstem #manufacturingmonth

This is HUGE for our region! Congrats to Greater Akron Chamber and Polymer Industry Cluster, the Barberton businesses and organizations that support it, and to our kids who will one day grow up to find great jobs in a growth industry that is teeming with purpose.
We call this one “Greater Akron’s $100 Million Summer” The Polymer Industry Cluster, powered by the Greater Akron Chamber, has been awarded $31.25 million from Ohio’s Innovation Hubs Program to fund the Greater Akron Polymer Innovation Hub project. With an additional $10.4 from local partners, we anticipate this investment will create nearly 2,400 jobs, 500 STEM credentials, and catalyze $68M in additional investments in the polymer industry over the next seven years. This milestone solidifies Greater Akron’s leadership in the polymer industry, driving innovation and economic growth in Northeast Ohio. With this funding, we’re set to attract new businesses, talent, and ideas, positioning our region to become the undisputed global center for polymer innovations. On behalf of the 70+ private and public partners that make up the Polymer Industry Cluster, we’d like to thank the DeWine-Husted Administration and Ohio Department of Development for their leadership in creating this transformational opportunity. We look forward to hitting the ground running and seeing our plans come to life! Barberton City School District's Business Advisory Council and the committment of their teachers creates incredible partnerships with local businesses like Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc. and builds opportunities for Barberton students. Great job all! #BarbertonStrong #CollaborativeCommunity
Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting Barberton City School District Middle School students for the “Makers of Tomorrow — Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Summer Camp,” in conjunction with the Manufacturing Sector Partnership at ConxusNEO, a non-profit organization based in City of Akron, Ohio that connects local employers to education and #WorkforceDevelopment programs. These bright young minds explored all things #Polymers, diving into the intricate process of ensuring consumer products are safe and reliable. From design to testing, they learned how every detail matters in #Engineering and #Manufacturing. #STEM education is crucial, especially in middle school, as it lays the foundation for future innovators and problem-solvers. We’re proud to inspire the next generation of the #PolymerWorkforce in #NEO! #MakersOfTomorrow #FutureGeneration #PolymerIndustry #STEMCareers Polymer Industry Cluster Ohio Department of Education and Workforce

Our new director of economic development, Gil Gonzales, was recently interviewed by Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com. In the article, Gonzales said that Barberton residents have the grit that's necessary for an entrepreneur to succeed. "What Barberton needs is to believe in itself," he said. Gonzales is leading the Newell Street Industrial redevelopment project as well as coordinating the Foundation's Economic Development Assistance Program and Downtown Building Rehabilitation Program, which support expanding business in Barberton, in partnership with BCDC. #BarbertonsGotGrit Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gxJKAD4k
