I will be starting as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto Engineering (2025 January). My?research program will integrate fundamental electrochemistry, surface science, and functional material-interface design toward developing next-generation technologies of chemical and energy conversion, which will be part of the portfolio of Acceleration Consortium. Our future directions are: 1. Interphase Optimization of Next-generation Battery Materials 2. Electrocatalytic Molecular Manufacturing for Circular Economy 3. Solar-driven Chemical Reforming for Environmental Sustainability 4. High-throughput and Autonomous Experimentation Accelerated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) Multiple PhD and Postdoc openings are available for interested candidates with strong backgrounds in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical, and Environmental Engineering etc. Please feel free to reach out!

Our work on the "Failure Process During Fast Charging of Lithium Metal Batteries with Weakly Solvating Fluoroether Electrolytes" is online! In this publication, we investigated the fast-charging behavior of lithium metal batteries in several state-of-the-art electrolytes. We observed internal short circuit as the limiting mechanism above a threshold charge rate (around 0.5C to 1C in this work). We identified the interplay between Li metal morphology and residual SEI morphology, which is affected by the applied current density and the electrolyte transport properties. To bring lithium metal batteries closer to reality, it is crucial to further improve the electrolyte transport properties. More work in the pipeline on this topic! An efficiency of 14.7% for all-PSCs, is reported by Prof. Zhenan Bao, Prof. Alberto Salleo et al which is among the highest for devices prepared under conditions relevant to scalable printing techniques and describe a strategy for promoting backbone conjugation and planarization in emerging polymer acceptors that can lead to superior all-PSCs. Wearable, stretchable electronics could be used to monitor our health, diagnose diseases, and enable improved, autonomous treatments. To achieve this, the electronics must be able to bend and stretch with our tissues, while also being soft enough to prevent scratching or damage. Researchers in Prof. Zhenan Bao’s lab, including postdoctoral researchers Donglai Zhong and Can Wu, have been working on skin-like, stretchable electronic devices for over a decade. Now, they present a new design and fabrication process for skin-like integrated circuits that are five times smaller and operate at one thousand times higher speeds than earlier versions. I am very excited to share our latest breakthrough: the development of high-speed and large-scale intrinsically stretchable integrated circuits, featured in the most recent issue of the prestigious Nature journal. After years of dedicated research and development, we have successfully achieved intrinsically stretchable transistor performance on par with flexible transistors, while also reaching MHz speed and enabling large-scale integration. This advancement has allowed us to demonstrate groundbreaking applications such as LED displays and high-density sensor arrays that surpass the capabilities of human fingers. Our team's efforts have opened new frontiers in stretchable electronics, promising exciting possibilities for the future. I extend heartfelt gratitude to Zhenan, Can, Yuanwen, and all our collaborators for their invaluable contributions to this work.
