May was all about IRL community building. We connected with new and OG Explorers at ETHBratislava, ETHDublin, Blockchain Ireland, and Global Pizza Party Milano by PizzaDAO. In Slovakia, students learned about Ethereum Name Service (ENS Labs Ltd), onchain identity and minted their ETHBratislava event memorabilia aka POAP - The Proof of Attendance Protocol, designed and distributed by Tetranome from the Academy Squad. In Italy, we onboarded attendees of the Milan edition of #GlobalPizzaParty - event that celebrates the first ever IRL #bitcoin transaction, two pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins. At ETHDublin, international MBA and Msc students learned how web3 education can be accessible to anyone in the world and in different languages. Lastly, but not least, and also in Dublin, our Marketing & Community Lead, Ornella Vallana took part in Blockchain Ireland Week on the Blockchain Skills panel - discussing how to bridge the gap between education and industry. Last week brought us the #blob update ??? This update significantly boosts #ETH scalability, aligning with what we aim at #WakeUp. ?? With the introduction of EIP 4844, #Dencun hard fork added the blob space to the Ethereum Foundation L1 protocol, marking a significant milestone in Ethereum's journey towards enhanced scalability and efficiency. But what exactly are blobs, and how do they contribute to #Ethereum? Blob space, a novel addition to Ethereum's Layer 1 protocol, stands distinct from traditional block space by serving as a dedicated lane for transactions. Unlike transactions that typically occupy block space, blobs represent packets of arbitrary data that are encapsulated and stored within the L1 blob space. ?? As mentioned by #TrustlessState of BanklessDAO in their podcast, blobs can be likened to high occupancy vehicle lanes for Ethereum Layer 2 transactions: “Think of it like a high occupancy vehicle lane for Ethereum Layer 2 transactions. Currently, on #Ethereum Layer 1, we're all driving in our individual cars, one person per car, which isn't very efficient. We're all facing high gas fees for transactions. Even Layer 2s are stuck in congested lanes like everyone else. Now, Layer 2s, acting as high occupancy vehicles, bundle up thousands of transactions from thousands of users. Instead of posting this data in block space, they wrap it in a blob and post it into blob space. This allows them to move faster through the carpool lanes, getting from point A to point B quicker and cheaper”. This aggregation process not only enhances efficiency but also reduces transaction costs. The impact of the blob update is already being felt across various Layer 2s.
