A remarkable design feature of the headhouse at The New Terminal One at JFK is the 10 “tree columns” that support the outer edges of the slanted roof. Supported by a two-inch-thick box column, each configuration contains a steel quasi-diamond-shaped node in the middle with four sloped steel “branches” extending outwards. Rather than build the nodes out of laminated plate, the 85,000-pound nodes were forged out of solid steel by ELLWOOD Specialty Metals. An in-house shoring system was used to erect the tree columns with 40 telescopic towers for supports. Banker Steel together with NYC Constructors fabricated and erected 33,000 tons of structural steel for the 2.6 million square foot state-of-the-art terminal. Banker Steel participated in the Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo made possible by Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and Central Virginia Community College. This event allowed middle school students across the region to explore in-demand career opportunities for their future. On the left is One Vanderbilt, a structure that soars 1,401 feet into the air culminating in an iconic spire. Banker Steel and NYCC fabricated and erected 27,000 tons of structural steel for this project. ??On the right is 270 Park Ave. with its signature diagrid pattern, global headquarters of JPMorgan Chase. At 1,388 feet tall, this building is the largest steel structure in New York City with 93,600 tons of structural steel. ?? This week Banker Steel and NYC Constructors topped out Phase One of the new #JFKTerminal 6 at JFK International Airport in Queens, New York. The new 1.2 million-square-foot terminal will feature 10 gates and one of the longest departures curbs at JFK International Airport. Banker Steel fabricated 17,000 tons of structural steel for the project and NYC Constructors erected the Phase One steel. Terminal 6 is on schedule to open its first five gates in 2026 and the remaining five in 2028.?
