"Hopelessness is the enemy of justice. It's hope that makes you stand up and fight." ???? At our recent Community Connections event, Normandi Amprey, Executive Director of Teach for America Baltimore, delivered a powerful message on the urgency of investing in K-12 education—because the alternative is simply unacceptable. In the face of funding challenges and uncertainty, Baltimore does not back down from a fight. Watch and learn why investing in K-12 education is more critical than ever. ?? A special THANK YOU to our other panelists: ?? It's hard to believe it has been five years since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID19 to be a global pandemic. BCF’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020 with a series of emergency grants for distribution of food and essential supplies, enabled by the generosity of hundreds of our donors, and progressed to include the establishment of the COVID-19 Evolving Community Needs Fund to address the far-reaching immediate, intermediate and long-term effects of the pandemic. Then and now, when Greater Baltimore is faced with a crisis, BCF steps up to serve, to centralize philanthropy and to move quickly to address community needs. In fact, community foundations across the USA serve this role. To learn more about the role of community foundations, check out this article: https://lnkd.in/e9kQSfiR

At BCF, we believe that strategic, sustainable funding is critical to shaping the future of education in Baltimore. Conversations like these help us connect the dots between funding, policy, and student success, ensuring resources are directed where they matter most. A huge thank you to our panelists and attendees for engaging in this important discussion! What role do you see philanthropy playing in the future of education funding? Let’s keep the momentum going. ???? #EducationMatters #CommunityConnections
?? Education News You Can Use ?? Had a great time on Friday at Baltimore Community Foundation's Community Conversations event listening to local/state education experts talking about the current and future landscape of education funding in Maryland. ?? Some key insights ?? ? Laser-focusing funding on core impacts on students and families will be key. ? Finding efficiencies is critical - with potential funding instability upstream, state/locals will need to keep an eye out for where general fund dollars will be needed to backfill. ? Philanthropies/nonprofits have a big role to play in what comes next - filling gaps, finding ways to support the gains these systems have made over the last few years in student achievement. All in all, a great discussion - and a rare(?) opportunity to see Joshua Michael in front of a room *without* a bowtie on ?? #education #localgovernment #stategovernment #educationfunding

Thank You, Baltimore. One year after the #KeyBridge collapse, our city has come together to rebuild, support, and uplift. With help from the Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund, Catholic Charities of Baltimore received $1,016,000 to support the establishment of Building Hope Dundalk, a human services center providing workforce development, case management, and mental health support to those seeking stability and opportunity. For families like Faustia Torbio’s, this center has been life-changing: ?? “Finding this center lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. They helped me secure health insurance for my kids and provided clothing donations so I could save money for bills. I am so grateful for the resources and support.” In just a few months, Building Hope Dundalk has already helped 100+ individuals connect with vital resources—a testament to the power of community. Together we responded. Together we rebuild. Together we are Baltimore Strong. ?? #KeyBridgeStories
