An organization working with tenants citywide to make renting safer for all individuals and families in Baltimore City.
关于我们
To learn more about BRU, visit: https://www.baltimorerentersunited.org/ Baltimore Renters United is an organization working towards a Baltimore where all renters live in safe, affordable housing. In Baltimore City, 53% of homes are rentals, but many renters live in substandard conditions, paying more than they can afford for rent and cycling through debt collection and eviction. Our Mission Baltimore Renters United (BRU) is building a tenant-led movement for housing justice. In collaboration with communities, organizers, legal advocates, and service providers, we use community organizing, political education, and advocacy to build the ranks of tenants prepared to advance renters’ rights and build tenant power in Baltimore.

Baldwin, a towering figure in literature and civil rights, fearlessly used his voice to speak up for the marginalized, the oppressed, and the unheard. His unyielding commitment to truth and justice serves as a guiding light in our quest for equality. Today, as we confront systemic racism, injustice, and inequality, let's heed Baldwin's call to action. Let's stand up, speak out, and fight for the rights and dignity of all people, especially those who are most vulnerable and unprotected. Let's honor James Baldwin's legacy by continuing the work he started—building a world where every voice is heard, every life is valued, and every person is treated with compassion and respect. This is real love. #JamesBaldwin #CivilRights #SocialJustice #Equality #SpeakUp

“More people are homeless because housing is simply too expensive. Politicians must resist the false bill of goods being sold by venture fund billionaires that further their arrest and police heavy response to homelessness and stay focused on the proven solution: housing,” said Law Center Executive Director Antonia Fasanelli (She/Her). “Our work must be driven by the foundational question, ‘what do we need to do so that, next year, the PIT shows that nobody in America is homeless.’" https://lnkd.in/e8A4nYWG

Legislation moving in St. Louis would require developers to be up to date on their property taxes to receive incentives. The bill text reads "real estate developers historically have received public tax incentives while owing tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid property taxes, creating a two-tiered class system where the wealthy can continue to receive and benefit from public subsidies without being current on their property taxes.” https://lnkd.in/gsfuxPPn

"There are some real lessons from KC Tenants about management practice among organizers. I wish this was something that people asked me about more. The pain point in so many organizations is when organizers are promoted and pulled out of the work of organizing and, before they know how to do it, are asked to manage other organizers. Also activists hired as organizers instead of organizers hired as organizers. Then there's a level of coaching and support that people just need to learn things. It's really hard. It's a lot of work. That's another piece of the management practice. I see so much unnecessary rigidity at organizations. I think maybe they need the rigidity because they've hired the wrong people. But at KC Tenants the difference is our organizers were all first leaders in our base. They are clear about why they're here and who they're accountable to and what they need to do."

Our organization does our best to support those on the verge of eviction. We do direct outreach to ensure tenants know their rights and that they have a right to counsel. To prevent more evictions and the existing disparities, we need #RentStabilization in Baltimore City. To learn more and join us, visit: https://lnkd.in/eZsyuWqQ
