Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-8th), whose district is home to NOAA’s Silver Spring headquarters, said Wednesday that, beyond the impact on workers, the cuts to the agency represent a safety issue. “[Maryland], like the rest of America … depends on the weather information and forecasts that are coming from NOAA,” Raskin said. He also said that Maryland is uniquely affected, both as a coastal state at risk of severe weather and as the home of many of NOAA’s workers. “We are profoundly affected, both as beneficiaries of NOAA’s work and also as people who help deliver it,” Raskin said. In light of Trump's newest executive orders calling for an overhaul of the federal workforce starting with DEI departments across agencies, we understand the fear of federal workers who suddenly find their careers in jeopardy. This order could significantly impact Maryland residents who make up nearly 20% of the Federal workforce. Baltimore Corps stands ready?to support efforts that mitigate the displacement?of hard-working Marylanders seeking to ensure job security. "Federal workers, meanwhile, are scrambling to make sense of the decrees, which may apply differently to each agency, depending on the person in charge and the fine print of union contracts. The return-to-office executive order in particular mystified employees and their supervisors, who are trying to parse whether it also affects telework, which is when employees who are based in an office work from home. The night Trump issued the executive order, Google searches for “federal workers return to office” spiked by more than 600 percent — with the most interest in the D.C. region, where 15 percent of federal workers are based." #Jobs #FederalJobs #Maryland #Employment Read more: https://lnkd.in/eMsefD6w
