Most leaders I know are terrified of living in a truth bubble, and they should be. People often don’t tell them what they need to hear—be it an idea, a warning signal, or critical information. When feedback is shared, it's often delivered coated in courtesies, hesitancies, and a million caveats, making it barely recognizable even to the most curious and receptive ears. As Howard Tullman says, "It's what you don't know that you don't know that can kill your business in no time at all." As the Co-Founder of a company dedicated to eliminating groupthink from collaboration and decision-making, I see leaders every day shocked by what they've missed—insights that were right there, waiting to be unlocked. The higher the stakes, the more important it is to have trusted channels for open discussion, free of groupthink and group dynamics that hinder honest communication. As Adam Grant outlines here: "It’s time for Mr. Biden’s team to run an anonymous poll of advisers, governors, and lawmakers. The results could be given to an honest broker—someone with a vested interest in winning the election rather than appeasing the president. The broker would facilitate an open discussion about the paths to victory in the seven swing states for him, Vice President Kamala Harris, or others.
