  • Interior Design 101 offers a foundational journey into the world of rapid visualization, focusing on freehand and technical drawing techniques. Students gain confidence in sketching and drafting as they explore perspective drawing and rendering. Through a hands-on approach, students are trained to visualize and present concepts with a flexibility that allows them to explore ideas quickly and comfortably. By empowering students to draw "on the fly" 101 prepares them to create dynamic design dialogues and ensures they are equipped with versatile skills for the professional practice.

  • Biophilia, or the innate human connection to nature, has become a significant influence in interior design. This approach aims to bring the outdoors inside by integrating natural elements and creating spaces that feel both soothing and revitalizing. Biophilic design is known to improve well-being, reduce stress, and enhance productivity, making it a critical point of study in our interior design curriculum. Guest consultant,?Sonja Bochart, conducted a three-day intensive workshop with studio 3!

  • During this year's eCAP fieldtrip week interior design students went to Atlanta, Georgia with Associate Professor Ahmadi Reza! They visited a variety of A&D firms including HOK, Perkins&Will, and Gensler. Cooper Lighting also hosted the group for an insider tour. The group also made their way to the Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and the Coke Museum. A special thanks to everyone that hosted. Memories for a lifetime were made!

  • The annual eCAP Interior Design T-shirt Design has been chosen! The winning design was created by sophomore interior design student, Mallory Harsha. Describing her design she says, “My concept was inspired by a blueprint, incorporating the 'ID' for interior design into a room layout. I envisioned using a blue shirt to represent the blueprint paper, with the 'ID' floor plan rendered as white linework on top, reflecting some of the work we do while keeping it fun and creative.” Congratulations, Mallory!

  • Studio 3, our junior studio, just finished talking about environmental graphics! They recently had speakers from Takeform Signage + Experiential Graphics and Design Collaborative visit their class, and they shared some great insights about the importance of wayfinding and environmental graphics in design. After the guest speakers, they created posters on Environmental Graphics that highlighted the key points using sketchnoting techniques. Junior Elyse Bassler says “Sketchnoting was a fun way to showcase what we learned, allowing us to express ideas through symbols, illustrations, and text. It was exciting to bring our notes to life visually, making the concepts more memorable and engaging!” Attached are some student projects from Elyse Bassler and Timothy Duke.

  • Over the summer, our students worked at many different design firms! Senior Mallory Lehmkuhler Interned at Studio 3 Design Inc over the summer and says “I got to work on a variety of projects this summer, from healthcare to multi-family to hospitality. I developed different furniture layouts, got to help with construction documents, and even did some custom casework elements!" Senior Jenelle Rogers interned at CSO Architects and her favorite project was “Westfield Middle School, specifically being able to create the furniture layouts for the media center and designing the athletic corridors, locker rooms, and hallway display designs."

  • Over this summer we hosted FOUR summer high school workshops on interior design! During the workshops students learned how to draft and about the design process while designing a 2000 sq. ft. space. The highlight of the workshop was a?firm crawl around the Indianapolis area. Students visited the Indianapolis Design Center (Ferguson, Mitsch, Open Gate, Conceptual Kitchens, Drapery Street), Carson and Lee Supply Company, where they gained valuable knowledge and resources from meeting real design professionals and were able to ask them questions about their prospective future careers.?The culmination of the workshop was an individual presentation, highlighting all of the skills acquired, to parents and friends.?

  • Over the summer, students had the opportunity to study abroad in South Korea. Twelve students from BSU were able to go, including 2 from our interior design program! Our faculty, Dr. Jake Son, accompanied the students. He said,?“During our time there, we experienced various aspects of Korean culture and trends in the built environment, gaining a deep understanding of the latest developments. Our experiences were comprehensive, spanning a wide range of disciplines including interior design, architecture, building structures, environmental architecture, and urban planning. This program offered us a unique chance to observe and engage with the innovative practices.” Interior Design senior Ivy Weise says her favorite memory from there was “Riding bikes around Han River and then eating pizza and chicken while watching the light and water show with the entire group. It was such a relaxing evening after all of our learning.” Attached are some pictures that they took there!
