Walgreens: We Create Joyful Lives Through Better Health. ?? Also Walgreens: Sells Cigarettes? ?? Great companies have a clear and genuine purpose. It comes from the heart, unifies employees, and has nothing to do with making money. Walgreens has a bold and ambitious purpose. However, words are empty when actions are not aligned. Enter CVS. In 2014 CVS stopped selling cigarettes. There was no public demand or competitive pressure to do so. They did it because selling cigarettes went against their mission - “Helping people on their path to better health” So they removed cigarettes from their 7,800 retail stores. Costing them $2 billion dollars in revenue. ?? Market anaylists slammed the decision, but CVS held firm. And a year and half later their stock had DOUBLED. The company never experienced financial difficulties like the analysts suggested. Customers and employees supported the move and rewarded them good press and loyalty. 100 million less cigarettes were sold the year after the move. Nicotine patch sales went up 4%. Overall cigarettes sales in areas where CVS had a large presence went down 1%. And they helped 228 colleges remove cigarettes from their campus. CVS did help people get healthy. ?? Today? CVS stock price is 7x Walgreens. And Walgreens stock has dropped 85% in the last decade. (While still selling cigarettes) The lesson? Stand up for the values you believe in. Francine is forecast to gain some strength before it makes landfall as a hurricane somewhere along the Louisiana coast later Wednesday, with impacts arriving well in advance. The National Hurricane Center forecasts Francine to be either Category 1 or 2 at landfall. Our thoughts and prays to those who are in the path of impact.

Mexico registered a record $31 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2024, a 7% year-over-year increase, according to Mexico’s Ministry of Economy. About $30 billion came from companies with an existing facility in Mexico, while new investments totaled more than $900 million. For the second consecutive year, we highlight the unprecedented amount of reinvestment of profits by companies in the country, due to economic stability, the good business environment and the competitive advantages offered, an ideal situation to expand and improve their production processes, becoming companies that attract new investments.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas as a Category 1 storm, knocking out power to more than 1.5 million homes and businesses. High waters quickly began closing roads around Houston, which was again under flood warnings after heavy storms in recent months washed out neighborhoods and knocked out power across the nation’s fourth-largest city. Beryl dumped soaking rains across Houston after coming ashore and was expected to bring damaging winds into East Texas, near Louisiana, as the storm pushed north after making landfall.
