Since Imagine Canada launched a four-day workweek pilot in January 2023,?they've seen a 66% increase?in the mental, physical and emotional health of their staff, as well as a massive increase in satisfaction related to work-life balance, shown in frequent polling. Plus, sick days have gone down by 40% and staff retention rate is at 94%. At Balanced Good, we work on a 32 hour week with some team members working four days a week and some spreading their time over five days to allow for more breaks in the day and to make school drop-offs and pick-ups easier. Our team loves the autonomy and is still able to get the work done. Have you tried a 4-day work week? Do you think it would work at your organization? Read more about Imagine Canada's results and how the 4-day work week is changing the way we work. Link to article in the comments.

We loved this conversation between Lacey Kempinski and Naomi Hattaway on the Leaving Well Podcast. This podcast is all about workplace exits and transitions - and navigating parental leaves is such an important part of the conversation. You can listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gN86Zfss While our parental leave coverage program provides supports to employers who have a gap in their team, the thing we are often most proud of is how we support the person who is going on leave. A large part of our role is to advocate for that person while they are off and help shape their workload so that they can return to a role that better supports the shape of their new life with a new little one at home. Our team is here to support all kinds of transitions -- and we love the conversations Naomi is facilitating.

*TAX RECEIPT EXTENSION NOT COMPROMISED BY PROROGATION* We have received questions regarding the timing of the legislation for the tax receipt extension. The prorogation won't affect the deadline or the spirit of the announcement made by the government to extend the deadline. The intent to introduce legislation is what allows CRA to count the receipts accordingly. Organizations and donors need not be worried by the fact that the legislation will be passed after the tax receipt extension. The eventual legislation was intended to be applied retroactively, and the prorogation doesn't change that. In fact, in 1997 when the federal government announced a similar measure for that year's postal strike, the bill that eventually implemented the month-long extension into January 31, 1998, wasn't passed until 1999. We are working with the Department of Finance on a FAQ for charities which we will share as soon as possible.

"Charities should not make any promises or guarantees at this moment to donors or the public that the matter will be dealt with in any particular manner, as we don’t have answers to many questions relating to the proposal." As a charity, there are a lot of unknowns right now when it comes to 2024 charitable tax receipting. Here's a good resource to help your organization make decisions and create a path forward. #fundraising #nonprofits #socialimpact

We loved the recent update in Ontario Nonprofit Network's newsletter this week, especially as it relates to Bill 229, Working for Workers Act Six. One of the key pillars of the Bill includes: creating a new parental leave for parents through adoption and surrogacy, with a 16-week job protected leave under the Employment Standards Act for adoptive parents and parents through surrogacy, to ensure they have adequate time to meet the demands of the adoption or surrogacy process, attach, and welcome their child into their new home. We are proud to call Ontario Nonprofit Network one of our clients and stand with them in updating members and our sector on the progress of this bill. Families are made in a variety of ways, and we need parental leaves that reflect that. #parentalleave #workingparents #socialimpactsector

What do you think needs to change about Canada's parental leave programs? I'm loving Moms at Work's proposal to move leave out from the EI umbrella.
We are loving these suggestions from Allison Venditti, CHRP, CHRL of Moms at Work on how to make parental leave better for all parents: - shorten the wait time for self-employed folks to access EI, paying into it for a year before being able to apply is too long - move parental leave out from the EI umbrella and make it it's own program - increase government supplied wage replacements (80% minimum!) which would make it easier for employers to commit to a top-up - and (we love this one) make payments higher for families with higher needs!
