Matoghar XVIII is our upcoming project, nestled in the serene, lush green surroundings of Devghat. In this design, we prioritize climate-responsive architecture, incorporating ample shaded spaces and an interior courtyard garden that opens to the north, ensuring a naturally cool and comfortable living environment. While the massing and volumetric forms have been thoughtfully sculpted, the design remains firmly rooted in the scale, proportion, and style of the region's vernacular architecture. Our aim is to strike a harmonious balance between traditional and contemporary elements, creating a home that honors the spirit of its location while offering a modern, sustainable living experience.

S K Y & E A R T H Viewing architecture as something that exists between sky and earth reveals the inherent tension and harmony between two opposing yet complementary forces: the grounded stability of the earth and the limitless expanse of the sky. In this context, designing buildings becomes the act of mediating these extremes, balancing the natural with the artificial and the rootedness of mass with the openness of void.

M A T O G H A R - V I I I , K A V R E In Matoghar VIII, Kavre, the design reflects a fundamental dichotomy of human existence: the public and the private, two distinct realms that shape our lives. These spaces are housed in separate blocks, yet are joined by an intermediary mud room—a symbolic threshold where boundaries blur, and transitions unfold. Inspired by the works of F.L Wright and L.I. Kahn, the design transcends mere function, exploring how architecture mediates between the private and public realms. Rooted in the earth, it draws upon local materials—rammed earth, timber, tiles, and concrete—expressing a deeper connection to place, time, and being.

A P E R T U R E S - I In the realm of architecture, an aperture is a portal that invites the outside world to whisper into the heart of a structure. These openings are the eyes of a building, framing the changing seasons, the rustle of leaves, and the fleeting clouds above.

M A T O G H A R V I I , B A L T H A L I In Matoghar VII at Balthali, the design draws deeply from the wisdom of local vernacular forms, where architecture is not imposed but emerges organically from the landscape and culture. Here, two sliding planar forms converge to create open, fluid living spaces—an interplay of simplicity and openness. Yet, as the building takes shape in three masses of varying heights, the scale is gently broken down, making the structure feel more like a natural extension of its surroundings. This project becomes a philosophical inquiry into the balance between tradition and modernity. It demonstrates how volumetric experimentation can honor the essence of vernacular architecture, while adapting to the needs of contemporary living. In this, it speaks to a timeless truth: architecture, at its core, is not just about space, but about how we reconcile the old and the new, the local and the universal, within the fabric of our everyday lives

M A N I L H A N G - II , P H O R T S E Phortse Manilhang represents a post-earthquake restoration of the Prayer-wheel Temple, where the design approach prioritized minimal intervention. The renovation strategically utilized local resources and materials to preserve the temple's cultural integrity while ensuring structural resilience, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern construction techniques. The focus on simplicity and resource-consciousness allowed for a restoration that respects the site's heritage and community values, while meeting the practical demands of the region. I T A G H A R - I , S A N E P A In Itaghar I, the design seeks to articulate a seamless integration of material and form through its fa?ade. Drawing inspiration from Mies van der Rohe’s notion that “architecture begins when you put two bricks together,” the fa?ade's composition emerges from a deliberate interplay of mass and void. Openings are created within the spaces between carefully stacked bricks, where the bricks themselves form the solid mass. This approach transforms the brick into both structure and expression, where material logic governs the aesthetic, and the fa?ade becomes a study in the rhythmic balance of solidity and transparency.

I N T E R I O R : M A T O G H A R - I , G O D A V A R I The design utilizes a natural and locally sourced material palette to create a cohesive interior atmosphere. By integrating materials such as timber, stone, and fabric with indigenous textures and finishes, the approach harmonizes with the environment. Additionally, local arts and crafts are thoughtfully incorporated into the design, enhancing the spatial experience and grounding the interior in the cultural context. This strategy not only emphasizes material authenticity but also fosters a connection between the built environment and the local heritage, enriching both aesthetic and tactile qualities of the space.

M A K I N G : M A T O G H A R - I , G O D A V A R I Matoghar I, also known as 'Hamro Matoghar,' represents our inaugural venture into rammed earth construction, where we aim to synthesize Nepalese vernacular aesthetics with principles of sustainability. This project predominantly employs local and natural materials, resulting in a structure that not only reflects cultural heritage but also promotes environmental stewardship. The building integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, as it appears to harmoniously coexist with the vegetation around it, embodying a design ethos that prioritizes ecological balance and regional identity.
