    I recently had the pleasure of attending my first College Industry Conference (CIC) in Chicago, organized by the FEF - Foundry Educational Foundation. I did so as the new FEF Key Professor for UW-Madison. This is a phenomenal event focused on connecting students, educators, and the metal casting industry. The networking, deep technical discussions, and generally camaraderie - all focused on strengthening the workforce pipeline for North American foundries and their suppliers - was amazing. I am really looking forward to representing UW-Madison again next year, with a bigger group of educators and students. A very special event at the CIC is the awarding of scholarships to students who have been active in foundry education, research, and internships/coops and who plan to pursue a career in metal casting. Congratulations to all of the scholarship winners! In particular, I am very proud of UW-Madison's own Ivan Cermak (BS MS&E) for receiving the 2024 Badger Mining Clifford Chier?(Shire)?Scholarship. Deanne Braemer from Badger Mining Corporation,?great-great granddaughter of Clifford, presented the scholarship award to Ivan. ? The Badger Mining Clifford Chier?(Shire)?Endowment?was established in honor of Clifford Chier?(Shire)?who founded the C. A. Chier?(Shire) Sand Company (now Badger Mining) in 1949 in Wisconsin.   • We're excited to share that Badger Mining Corporation (BMC) was recently honored with the Career Pathways Excellence Award at the CESA 6 2024 Youth Apprenticeship Awards ceremony! ?? This prestigious award recognizes companies that have shown exceptional dedication to creating diverse career opportunities for students through youth apprenticeship programs. Out of over 1,500 nominees, BMC was one of only three businesses chosen to receive this honor. In the past two years, our youth apprenticeship program has grown significantly, offering valuable hands-on experiences in areas of diesel mechanics, quality, business administration, and IT. We are incredibly proud to help shape the next generation of talent!   • Badger Mining Corporation Strengthens Team with Key Additions Badger Mining Corporation is excited to announce the addition of Chris Blakley and Jim Kundratic to its team, reinforcing its foundry business and expanding its non-foundry industrial business development efforts. Chris joins Badger as a Product Development Analyst, and Jim will serve as Regional Sales Director. Chris Blakley brings extensive experience to Badger, having earned a strong reputation in the sand industry across areas such as plant operations, quality, and product development. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor. Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Geology and Geography from Eastern Illinois University. His in-depth knowledge of mining, quality assurance, and product development aligns with Badger’s commitment to continuous growth, improvement, and the advancement of both existing and new product offerings. Jim Kundratic joins Badger with a wealth of experience in foundry operations, having worked with several foundries in both Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. His deep understanding of the challenges faced by foundries, combined with his expertise in operational intricacies, will enhance Badger’s ability to provide robust technical support to its customers. Jim is also a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and holds an engineering degree from Penn State University. Mike Lenahan, Executive Vice President of Sales at Badger Mining, commented, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with both Jim and Chris for many years, and I am thrilled to welcome them to the Badger Team. We are thrilled to announce a major expansion at the TranSand Fort St. John terminal, the first and only unit train facility in Northeast British Columbia (NEBC). This strategic partnership between Badger Mining Corporation and TranSand Inc. will add 275 new railcar spots, significantly enhancing operational capacity and efficiency. ? This expansion strengthens our commitment to supporting the growing demand in the Montney region and ensures Badger Mining Corporation can continue delivering high-quality silica sand to our customers across Canada.
