The best results always come from collaboration. We recently partnered with Saatchi & Saatchi UK to create the design and motion system for .mem, an AI tool developed for Deutsche Telekom. The .mem tool turns WhatsApp group chats into engaging stories, so users can remember, relive and share their favourite memories. The look and feel was inspired by the tech element of generative AI and the hazy, dreamy feelings that memories evoke, bringing those two together to create a unique visual language. We didn’t get to the final result overnight or within our own BADBERRIES silo. We spent time experimenting and collaborated closely with the team at Saatchi to deliver the best possible result for the client. Creative work should never be done in a bubble. It’s when people come together that great work happens. I have many more thoughts on collaboration that I will share over the next couple of weeks. Watch this space! ?? #MotionThinking

Motion was what got me excited to get into design. I was a kid in the 90s and was completely wowed by the MTV idents and bumpers. I had no idea it was called motion design back then. I was blown away by the fresh design and how it would tell little stories through movement. Fast forward a good few years and I have a dream brief landing on my lap. It was to work on the intro and outro tiles for a new docuseries for the NBA, called Hoop Cities. I’m a big NBA fan and basketball is all about energy and movement. So starting with motion was a no-brainer. But that’s unfortunately not what happens with many projects, when motion is just an afterthought. And a huge missed opportunity. Because exploring with motion design from the beginning unlocks creative solutions that would never have been possible otherwise. Motion is an enabler of richer storytelling. Just like the MTV branding back in the 90s. For Hoop Cities, that materialised in the way that we created the whole design system. The logo, for example, uses typography to build the basketball court, which is a central element of the game and culture in each of the cities featured in the docuseries. It’s a simple yet bold and elegant solution that we couldn’t have achieved without motion. When Natasha Szczerb and I decided to start BADBERRIES, we knew it was an opportunity to change the traditional ways of working. And to put motion at the heart of the creative process. We call it Motion Thinking. #MotionThinking

We had a great time creating the visual and motion identity for .mem, an AI tool developed by Saatchi & Saatchi UK for Deutsche Telekom that turns WhatsApp group chats into engaging stories, so users can remember, relive and share their favourite memories of the Summer. The look and feel was inspired by the tech element of generative AI and the hazy, dreamy feelings that memories evoke, bringing those two together to create a unique visual language. #badberries #newwork #ai #visualidentity #motionidentity

5/8 Having Fun Otherwise what's the point of doing anything? One of the first things Natasha Szczerb and I did when we decided to create BADBERRIES was define our values. We ended up with eight that we feel strongly about and we stand behind. Then when it was time to build our visual identity, we created an unexpected berry to represent each one of them. ?? ?? ?? #BADBERRIES #CreativeStudio #Branding #VisualIdentity #Values
