Establishing a new business in Kuwait can be an exciting venture, especially with the recent introduction of the "Micro-Business License," allowing entrepreneurs to operate without the need for a physical office. This policy has opened doors for many Kuwaitis, like myself, who want to break free from the limitations of the public or private sector and pursue their own dreams. My company, Babel Cases, which specializes in premium mobile phone cases, benefits from this flexibility and has the opportunity to expand into manufacturing, importing, and exporting. However, while the opportunity is there, the obstacles remain, especially when navigating through Kuwait’s often slow and cumbersome governmental processes. It’s one thing to deal with the red tape, but quite another when the human element comes into play. Recently, while trying to obtain my business license, I was met with an unanticipated request from a government employee to clear my name from a previous criminal case—a case in which I had already been declared innocent. Yet, because the verdict was not updated in their system, I was told I had to travel all the way to the court and then to Jahra to "fix" something that should have been handled by the government itself. It was a frustrating, time-consuming journey that added unnecessary stress to an already lengthy process. I found myself driving back and forth across the city, following the labyrinth of bureaucratic steps, all the while trying to understand why such an important issue wasn’t resolved by the system in the first place. And with Ramadan in full swing, the pressures of fasting and the added fatigue only made it more difficult to maintain patience. The possibility that an employee, in the heat of the moment, could snap and deny me clearance was a sobering thought. In these moments, I’ve come to realize the importance of understanding the emotional state of those we interact with, especially in such a demanding time. It’s frustrating, yes, but it’s also part of the process that comes with pursuing your goals. Kuwait has great potential for entrepreneurial growth, but it requires a shift in how the government works with its citizens—something more efficient, perhaps, and more empathetic toward the people it serves. For now, we endure, knowing that these hurdles are just part of the journey toward independence. Tomorrow is an exciting milestone! I’ll be heading to the Ministry of Trade and Commerce to get my business license for producing and exporting premium artistic mobile phone cases. The process is straightforward and quick, but due to some lag on the ministry’s website, I’ll be going in person to get some assistance with that minor hurdle. Afterward, I'll be focusing on creating stationery to reach out to local electronics and mobile accessories retailers in Kuwait. Exciting times ahead as I continue to build and grow this venture! ?? #entrepreneurship #newbeginnings #businessjourney #mobileaccessories #Kuwait
