Had a blast at The AI Alliance event in SF last night @ GitHub! Big thanks to Dave Nielsen and Chris Churilo of Zilliz for organizing a great event. * Amit Sangani of Meta talked about the open-sourcing of Llama and its scale. Meta's utilization of 16K+ massive GPU clusters to push open source models to developers is remarkable, especially considering most incumbents rely on paid cloud services. Kudos, and it shows in Llama's 10x growth numbers + growing partner network. * AITOMATIC showcased the rise of AI agents highlighting the potential for enterprise adoption. Chris Nguyen and Shruti Raghavan discussed the applications across industries, from semi-conductor development, to skills pickup for enterprise continuity. * Zhuo Li gave a talk about how the team at Hyrdox Ai is developing safer AI Model architectures. * Jed Pitera showcased models made by IBM for incredible cases like molecular engineering and new chemicals. + Nice touch with the Github repo spinner giveaways. If you're in the Bay Area, check out the IBM + The AI Alliance booths at AI Conference Tuesday/today and join our event in San Jose on Wed/tomorrow at the AI Summit backed by Intel AI, and check out a demo of IBM's Data Prep tool by Sujee Maniyam! Data cleanup and wrangling for enterprise (large, unstructured) can often require as much - or even more compute - than training itself. The Data Prep demo we'll be hosting tomorrow will demonstrate a myriad of benefits at this crucial step. Links in the comments. #AI #AIAlliance #Meta #LLaMa #AITOMATIC #IBM #IntelAI

Events aren't dead but they might be broken. Lots of great discussion about event strategy/ROI coming out of both Forrester B2B Summit as well as RSA for the cybersecurity sector. Some great posts earlier today from Jenn Deering Davis and Carilu Dietrich helped me coalesce some thinking here. It feels like we've ramped events back up using the same pre-pandemic playbook and that's not going to fly. Here are a few ideas to make them more meaningful and impactful for everybody (attendees, sponsors and producers). ?? It's an experience, not just an event People will prioritize spending time and money in places where they feel energized, feel seen, feel productive. That means fewer lectures and more interactions. This applies to everything: keynotes to breakouts to parties. For example, instead of the same boozefest at the same old venue, 6sense this week rented out Allens Boots, brought in a lobster roll food truck and treated their customers and prospects to a real experience. They spent money on boots vs booze. People are still talking about it. ?? Prioritize attendee engagement The most buzzworthy events from 2024 so far are those with the least formal agendas. Round tables vs rows in the big room. Prioritization and programming that got people engaging with each other early and often. There are so many ways to do this well. At the Pavilion CMO Summit last month for example, several main stage sessions were followed by 20 minute "table talk" sessions where groups of 8-10 attendees turned insights into practical ideas/next steps they could take home to implement and got to know 8-10 other people vs just staring forward all day. ?? Who attends matters I don't really care how many people attended, how many showed up at your demo theater presentation, how people were at your break-out session. Were they the right people? Were they people with the same roles/experience/problems so that their interactivity was more relevant and valuable? I'll take quality over quantity all day long. ?? Cars vs airplanes We're clearly still willing to do long-distance travel for events, but the bar is very much higher. We know how valuable video conferencing is. Some of the best attended, most efficient events I've seen this year are local not national. With more people working from home, we crave in-person human-to-human connections with like-minded peers. Given the pound of flesh it costs to activate some of the usual national shows, could that $$ be better spent on a roadshow? On taking an incredible experience TO your customers? ?? WE own making this better Yes it's sometimes fun and cathartic to complain about events. I love a good rant. But events aren't going to change in a way we like and want unless we do something about it ourselves. Be specific in your feedback to the conferences you attend and/or sponsor. Take a closer look at how you activate those events as sponsors and how you're prioritizing experiences, engagement and interactivity.??
