Ned dropping some insights!
terraform init -backend=false Why would you use this option? To run validate without setting up the state backend. The command will still pull the modules and providers used by your configuration without trying to set up the state backend. Now you can run validate successfully! #terraform #devops

Are you managing your cloud or just deploying and hoping for the best? ?? Many struggle with using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for quick cloud setups without long-term planning. In Mark Tinderholt’s book and on our Developer Portal, learn how to apply lifecycle management principles to IaC and thrive in a multi-cloud world with AWS, Azure, and GCP. https://bit.ly/3Zj6Oxt

Beware the Terralith: the terrifying Terraform monster born of over-scoped workspaces and tangled dependencies. It looms large, with bloated state files and a web of unnecessary complexity, ready to bring your deployment to its knees. Keep your configurations lean, your scopes focused, and your workspaces modular—don’t let the Terralith consume your sanity!

Monolithic Terraform and OpenTofu architectures—aka large state files—are often environments that grow out of control over time. If you are facing one or multiple of the following symptoms, you are most likely managing a "Terralith": - Large run-times for plan, apply and drift detection workflows - Large blast radius - Blocking sequential pipeline runs - Poor DORA metrics Our friends at Masterpoint published an outstanding article explaining the "Terralith" and how to overcome it in detail - it's worth reading! https://lnkd.in/eGzmrXEK

Shoutout to Mark Tinderholt for sharing his wisdom in "Mastering Terraform: A practical guide to building and deploying infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and GCP" Here's why I think that this book is an absolute game-changer if you work or want to work with Terraform: - The book covers basics such as HCL, language, state, and modules, as well as advanced topics such as deployment patterns, all using examples and best practices that you can directly apply in your day-to-day job. - I love how the book takes you from zero to hero. Once you reach page ~470, you learn how to manage and deploy complex, multi-cloud architectures using Terraform. - Mark explains complex topics clearly and concisely, making them easy for beginners to understand and providing depth for experts - I really enjoyed reading it and didn't get bored (which is what happened to me with a lot of other Terraform books). My favorite is the state management chapter, which uses the "Jurassic Park" analogy—I won't spoiler more, though, lol. Guess what? I consider myself fairly well seasoned when it comes to Terraform ?? but even I took away some excellent learnings! So, whether you’re new to Terraform or looking to deepen your expertise, this book provides clear, practical insights - I highly recommend it! PS: No, Mark Tinderholt did not ask me to post this and yes - this is the sweater from my favorite movie, "The Big Lebowski." ??
