As part of Arizona Liver Health’s initiative for Liver Health Awareness Month, we are dedicated to promoting the critical importance of early detection for prevention of liver disease. The liver is a resilient organ, often showing little to no symptoms until disease has progressed, making it vital to raise awareness about the steps people can take to safeguard their liver health early on. By emphasizing proactive measures, we aim to educate the public on the significance of early screening and prevention to reduce the incidence of serious liver conditions such as MASLD, hepatitis, and liver cancer. This month, we are highlighting key reminders that can help detect liver issues in their earliest stages, when treatment is most effective and long-term health outcomes are significantly improved. Whether through routine check-ups, lifestyle changes, or being vigilant about subtle symptoms, early action can make all the difference. Here are some early detection strategies we encourage everyone to incorporate into their healthcare routine: 1.Get Regular Liver Screenings:?Early liver disease often shows no symptoms. Regular screenings, especially for those at high risk (like individuals with excess weight, diabetes, or a history of alcohol use), can catch liver issues before they become severe. 2.Know Your Liver Health Numbers:?Encourage followers to get their liver enzyme levels (ALT, AST) checked through a simple blood test to monitor liver function. 3. Watch for Subtle Symptoms:?Remind people to pay attention to early symptoms like fatigue, nausea, or unexplained weight loss, which can signal liver problems. 4.Manage Risk Factors:?Highlight lifestyle factors such as maintaining a healthy weight, limiting alcohol intake, and avoiding the misuse of medications to lower the risk of liver disease. 5.Get Vaccinated:?Vaccination against hepatitis A and B can prevent liver infections, which are major causes of liver disease. 6.Regular Check-ups for Those at Risk:?People with conditions like hepatitis, diabetes, or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) should be proactive in managing their liver health with routine monitoring. 7.Early Detection Saves Lives:?Emphasize that conditions like MASLD (formerly NAFLD) or liver cancer can be treated effectively if detected early. "At Viral ElimiNation (VEN) Centers, we are on the front lines of Arizona’s fight to eliminate hepatitis C (HCV), reaching underserved and unserved populations where healthcare access is limited. Through our innovative outreach and telehealth-based treatment model, we have brought testing and treatment directly to the streets in high volumes—giving hope and healing to those who need it most. Our findings reveal an alarming trend: over?15%?of unsheltered individuals and people who use drugs (PWUD) are testing reactive for past exposure to HCV. This syndemic of HCV, substance use, and homelessness requires urgent action. Without enhanced support and testing resources, the ripple effect of untreated HCV will continue to devastate these vulnerable populations, further straining our healthcare systems and deepening health inequities. We cannot solve this alone. We need the support of our communities, healthcare partners, and policymakers to: Expand HCV Testing Resources: Increase funding for rapid HCV testing and expand partnerships with harm reduction and homeless services organizations to reach every corner of our state. Enhance Supportive Services: Invest in services essential to health management—stable housing, addiction treatment, mental health care, and case management—critical in addressing the root causes that perpetuate the HCV epidemic. Drive Policy Change: Advocate for expanded public health initiatives that focus on underserved populations, including increased access to harm reduction tools and elimination of the insurance and pharmacy imposed barriers to delivering comprehensive HCV care." - Dylan Moore #VENCenters #HCVcare #ViralElimiNation #SupportiveService Dylan Moore Ann Moore Brennin Palfrey Anita Kohli Richard Manch Colleen Hopkins Kylee Newgass Tessa Janovsky Gavin Ferguson Marianne Rosati Rida Nadeem, MD, MSPH Colleen Hopkins Chelsea Ann Mihaylo Hum, PMP Arizona Liver Health AbbVie Gilead Sciences Jake Winans, MSN, RN, FNP-C Amy Rust Carlos Flores Michelle Jones Kelly Black Nick Engelke
