Axena's Leva? Pelvic Health System helps women train and strengthen their pelvic floor muscles—at home, in just five minutes a day—to treat their stress, mixed and mild-to-moderate-urgency urinary incontinence (including overactive bladder) and chronic fecal incontinence. The Leva system’s patented mechanism of action is distinguished by published clinical evidence, peer-reviewed research and excellence in patient support. As a digital prescription therapeutic, the Leva system supports the critical partnership between clinicians and patients, shining a light on this important and underserved area of women’s health. Bladder leakage (#incontinence) is a progressive disorder: without treatment, it can get worse. It's a big part of why the U.S. has a $3 billion adult diaper market. Adult incontinence products can be a helpful way to manage symptoms for some. However, 62% of adult women live with incontinence. Adult diapers are not appropriate for all of them. They're certainly not the only option--not when so many can live leak-free with treatment. However, companies that make adult incontinence products would like you to think you can feel sexy and strong in their products. Our view: diaper ads help normalize incontinence. They can prevent women from seeking necessary treatment. As Sherrie Palm writes in one of our favorite articles, "suggesting women feel sexy or empowered because they are using an absorbent product to trap leakage flies in the face of common sense." We couldn't agree more. Be a part of getting women out of adult diapers. Pelvic floor muscle training is first-line treatment for bladder leakage. The Leva System makes it easy to access. Awareness is the first step. Check out Sherrie's article. https://lnkd.in/eeFJ-tpz #bladderhealthawarenessmonth #takecharge #pelvicfloor #health #doityourself

Bladder health is a topic that impacts everyone. It's one of the first things mothers watch in their babies, and one of the most distressing things to lose in adulthood. As we age, the bladder loses elasticity. Pelvic floor muscles can also weaken, leading to urinary incontinence. The National Institute on Aging (NIA) offers 15 things you can do to keep your bladder healthy. Of course, if you experience bladder leaks, seek treatment. November is bladder health month. 62% of adult women live with incontinence. Awareness is the first step toward reducing this number. This month, we're sharing our favorite resources about incontinence and the treatment barriers women face. Please like and repost. We are very fortunate to have two highly accomplished physical therapists on our clinical team. Special congratulations to Drs. Jessica McKinney, PT, DScPT, MS and Laura Keyser, DPT, MPH for not one but two new published papers in a highly respected physical therapy journal. #femaleleaders #womenhelpingwomen #pelvichealth #bladderhealthmonth
Career-long women's health clinician (PT), educator & advocate with current roles as VP at a digital women's health company, adjunct university faculty, & consultant in global/community women's health.
?? Thrilled to Announce! ?? On this last day of National Physical Therapy Month, I'm excited to share that our latest paper, "Women's Health across the Lifespan: A Sex- and Gender-Focused Perspective," has been published in the PTJ: Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Journal Featured Collection: Health Disparities in Rehabilitation—Focus on Practice and Research. ?? Historically, women’s health in physical therapy has centered around sexual and reproductive health. However, both biological sex and the social construct of gender are key determinants of health, influencing everything from disease pathophysiology to therapeutic outcomes. Our paper argues that it’s time to expand our concept of "women's health" to include a broader, sex- and gender-informed approach. ?? Through the lens of rehabilitation, this Perspective explores how sex- and gender-based disparities affect women’s and girls’ health throughout their lives. From maternal-fetal outcomes to motor development differences and the increased care burden on women in adulthood, the interplay of biology and social factors is complex and significant. Yet, despite these disparities, our outcomes literature often lacks sex- and gender-disaggregated data. ?? A coordinated effort within the physical therapy community—encompassing practice, education, research, advocacy, and policy—is needed to address these gaps. By adopting a more comprehensive, sex- and gender-informed approach, we can better meet the needs of our patients and contribute more effectively to women's health across the lifespan. ?? Special thanks to my co-authors, Laura Keyser, DPT, MPH and Susan Clinton. Special thanks to everyone who has supported this work, including the generosity of Marathon Physical Therapy & Sports Performance and Mama, LLC in providing for the #OpenAccess licensing fees. I hope this publication sparks meaningful dialogue and action within our community and represents one material contribution of the countless contributions that are needed. #WomensHealth #PhysicalTherapy #HealthDisparities #Research #GenderEquality #PTJ #HealthcareInnovation #Rehabilitation #PTMonth #ChoosePT https://lnkd.in/ebTz8V7n

More than 35% of counties in the U.S. are maternity care deserts. That means women don't have access to a single birthing facility or obstetric clinician. At Axena Health, we believe every woman who delivers a baby vaginally should have immediate access to pelvic floor physical therapy to prevent future pelvic floor dysfunction--urinary incontinence being most common. However, NO access to maternity care not only threatens this goal, it places the health of mothers and babies at risk nationally.
