Partnering with Communities to Prevent Veteran Suicide
关于我们
Our mission is to partner with communities to prevent veteran suicide. Our programs accomplish this by starting at the community level and understanding the unique situations of veterans and their families. We connect local veteran-serving organizations with the appropriate resources, services, and partners that they need to support veterans, their families, and caregivers at every stage of veterans’ lives. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for veterans and to end veteran suicide by empowering local communities to serve them proactively and holistically before a crisis occurs. Our upstream approach to veteran empowerment is a four-step plan to Connect, Educate, Advocate, and Collaborate with veterans, their families, and caregivers, and the communities that support them. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for veterans and to end veteran suicide by empowering local communities to serve them proactively and holistically before a crisis occurs.

???? This holiday season, as we gather with our loved ones, it’s important to remember the veterans in our communities facing food insecurity. One in nine working-age veterans struggles with access to adequate food, and at AWP, we’re committed to making a difference. AWP President & CEO Jim Lorraine recently spoke with Fox News about this critical issue: "At checkout, whether it's to donate a turkey or canned goods or to go to the local American Legion or VFW that have events... Live with your heart." ?? ?? Let’s honor our veterans' service by giving back. Together, we can ensure no veteran faces the holidays alone or hungry. ?? Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eu-tCvCJ

Veteran is married and lives with her husband and their kids 15 and 7. V The family recently moved from Colorado to GA to be closer to family due to the husbands medical problems. Those medical problems have made it impossible for him to work and the family is currently reliant on her disability income to pay bills. As a result of the move and husbands inability to work, they have gotten behind on their bills. We are assisting with some rental issues but the most emergent need of for the vehicle. ?????? Being a wife, mother, and caretaker for a disabled veteran takes immense strength. The emotional and financial pressures can be overwhelming, leaving little room for self-care or peace of mind. That’s where AWP steps in, providing crucial support to help veterans and their families find stability. Melissa Adkins, a caretaker for her husband—a former Army Specialist who served two tours in Afghanistan —knows these challenges well. With three children at home and colder months approaching, the family needed help with food and clothing. Melissa reached out to the AWP Network, and thanks to financial assistance provided by the TD Foundation, the family was gifted funds for groceries and warm clothing for the kids. ?? Melissa shared, “We are so grateful you were able to help us.” ?? Thanks to your support, this family can breathe a little easier, knowing their children will be cared for this season. ???? Together, we can do better. ??
