On Wednesday, General Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps made an official visit to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS.? ? During his visit, General Smith reviewed the two amphibious warships currently under construction, Bougainville?(LHA 8) and?Harrisburg?(LPD 30). He highlighted the crucial role they play in "[projecting] power in unforeseen circumstances" and underscored that "these ships are vital to national security." ? To deliver these crucial assets, it is important that the amphibious warship industrial base receive steady and predictable funding. After an impactful deployment, the USS Boxer (LHD-4) is leaving the Western Pacific and making its way home to San Diego. The USS Boxer successfully participated in key operations, including humanitarian aid in the Philippines after Typhoon Krathon and exercises in the South China Sea with U.S. allies. Great to see the 31-ship minimum stated in the latest #USMC Commandant's Planning Guidance: "The congressionally mandated minimum inventory of Amphibious Warfare Ships (AWS) provides for no fewer than 31?AWS."?This requirement ensures our Marines can swiftly respond to crises around the world, bolsters our national security interests, and promises a level of stability for the supplier base that helps sustain production and maintain a strong workforce. ?
