On Wednesday, General Eric Smith, the 39th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps made an official visit to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS.? ? During his visit, General Smith reviewed the two amphibious warships currently under construction, Bougainville?(LHA 8) and?Harrisburg?(LPD 30). He highlighted the crucial role they play in "[projecting] power in unforeseen circumstances" and underscored that "these ships are vital to national security." ? To deliver these crucial assets, it is important that the amphibious warship industrial base receive steady and predictable funding.
