Are they really who they say they are? Biometric tech is helping organizations answer this question with confidence. For example... It’s become more important than ever for states or government entities to adopt effective anti-fraud measures with the startling rise of unemployment scams in the United States. These acts threaten the integrity of state-funded benefit programs without proper protocols in place at enrollment, such as a verification process. If there are no steps to verify a claimant’s true identity at onboarding, who’s to say the claimant is truly the claimant? True or False? 👃 Spoilers below... The answer is: True! Much is made about the breadth of biometric modalities, and indeed research into new, exotic biometrics (like ear, gait, and even odor) is compelling. BUT the modalities that are field-proven in large-scale deployments (and likely the ones you are most familiar with) are fingerprint, face, iris, and voice. Behavioral biometrics such as keystroke dynamics are also gaining in performance and adoption. Today, these happen to be the biometric modalities that best meet our tests for uniqueness, permanence, and consistency while also being conducive to capture using sensing devices in an ergonomically and economically practical way (which is why you don't commonly see odor as a modality for authentication).
