Online gambling players, we're curious... Have you ever encountered biometrics in your gaming activities? Biometrics are becoming an integral part of iGaming and online gambling platforms, enhancing security, regulatory compliance, and user experience. How? Players may encounter biometrics when logging in using facial or voice recognition, streamlining access while reducing the risk of account takeover. Identity verification during registration often involves biometric checks to ensure compliance with age restrictions and prevent fraud. Additionally, biometric authentication can secure high-value transactions and withdrawals, protecting users from unauthorized access. Beyond security, biometrics play a role in responsible gaming by helping self-excluded players stay off gambling platforms and detecting potential signs of problem gambling through behavioral analysis. Key takeaways from their session included: 🔹 Fraud is on the rise due to the increased democratization of sophisticated fraud tools in the hands of criminals-for-hire. 🔹 Out of the three factors for identity - (1) what you know (like passwords, usernames, social security #’s, address, phone, etc), (2) what you carry (physical IDs), and (3) who you are (biometrics), (1) has completely compromised with data breaches and (2) has been compromised with increasingly sophisticated fraudulent IDs, leaving (3) as the only viable option. 🔹 MDL standards do not have enough protections or biometric standards in place to be effective.
