We did it! 8 servers, 2 firewalls, 2 switches and 2 load balancers. I think we ended up with a total of 100+GB of RAM, and 900TB of disk. A good start!

Today will be a good day to be proud of! 40 years ago, we set up the Refron data center in LIC. we set up the BuildingLink data center at AT&T 22 years ago. And today we are setting up and turning on the Aware Buildings data center at Digital Realty in the Google building downtown. We are setting up our own data center today for Aware - at a hosting facility at 16th street and eighth avenue - we are bringing in 6 servers , two load balancers, two firewalls - exciting. Moving away from Azure and cloud hosting. We are paying Microsoft Azure $26k a month! And it would keep going up as our data needs double this year and triple next year. Our hosting center is around $120k of equipment and it will cost me $6k a month and not go up as we grow because it is 5-10 times more powerful than what we were paying Azure for!! Not everybody knows how to set this up or wants to find somebody who knows how to set it up. That’s why the big cloud companies are being paid hundreds of billions of dollars. So expensive. So unnecessary. I suspect that eventually somebody will build a“data center in a box” that you could just plug into your home or office at work and that this avalanche of billions of dollars flying to cloud companies will stop flowing
