Meet Nathaia Lassiter, a junior veterinary technology major from Statesville and new member of the CAS Corps!
Lassiter chose App State because of the Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology degree. “I have always loved App State. The campus is beautiful and I am naturally naturistic, so being accepted into the Veterinary Technology program sealed the deal when looking for schools. I can now take further steps into my career and come closer towards my dreams,” explained Lassiter, who hopes to work in a clinic as a Registered Veterinary Technologist in the future.
So far, Lassiter's favorite courses are the ones focusing on animal behavior, surgical procedures and veterinary nursing. She values the close-knit community of students, faculty and staff in the Veterinary Technology program, and her favorite memory is studying abroad in Zimbabwe with the program last June. Lassiter described the trip as “amazing” and hopes to return to Zimbabwe in the future. She added, “I would also love to go to Australia to practice veterinary medicine on conservation animals.”
When asked about a faculty member who has made an impact on her life, Lassiter recognized Jennifer Serling, director of the Veterinary Technology program. “She has stepped in to help me in more ways than one,” wrote Lassiter. “She has gone above and beyond to encourage me and provide substantial knowledge that has guided me into the student I am.”
In her free time, Lassiter enjoys working out, teaching Sunday School at her church and reading. “My favorite book is currently 'Authentically, Uniquely You' [by Joyce Meyer],” she shared.
