Some conversations leave a mark on your heart—Michael’s was one of them. This past Tuesday at the 4 Minute Community press conference in Dauphin County, I met Michael, a sudden cardiac arrest survivor, and his incredible wife, Sharon, who saved his life. Five months ago, at 4:30 AM, Sharon woke up, found Michael without a pulse, and immediately started CPR. Their son joined in. EMS fought for nearly an hour. And because of their quick action, Michael is here today. But survival wasn’t the end of his journey—it became the beginning of his purpose and he is now a proud CARE team member for Avive Solutions Inc.'s 4 Minute Community. “I try to wake up every morning and remind myself of what my purpose is for the day." Michael is proof of why every second counts. His story is a powerful reminder that knowing how to act can mean the difference between life and death. Meeting him and Sharon was humbling, grounding, and a reminder of why we do this work. "We all wish we would have been somewhere for something in our lives. We all have. We try to live without regrets, but we all wish there's a moment where we said, ‘I wish I would have been there. I wish I would have acted.’ This helps prevent that, plain and simple." Hearing Michael speak was a moment that I won’t forget. We are not just talking about AEDs and response times—we’re talking about giving people a second chance at life. Michael found his purpose through survival. The 4 Minute Community gives each of us the opportunity to find ours—by stepping up when it matters most. We’re thrilled to announce that Dauphin County, PA has joined our 4 Minute Community? Program in collaboration with The Peyton Walker Foundation, Emergency Health Services Federation, and Dauphin County Department of Public Safety. The program, which has already been adopted by Cumberland County, PA, the City of Jackson, TN, Forsyth County, GA, and the City of Carrollton, TX aims to improve cardiac arrest response through technology.
