It has had a great response from the market and is so versatile and durable that it can be found in automotive, consumer goods, O&P, or industrial parts. ? It can be easily unpacked at room temperature and allows for beautiful lattice designs. Automation is not just for high-volume, repeat production. That’s something I learned during my visit to Avid Product Development, A Lubrizol Company in Loveland, Colorado. The facility is appointed with machines that automate additive manufacturing steps such as depowdering, cleaning, polishing, dyeing. Looking at the equipment alone, you might think this is a manufacturer churning out production parts day in and day out. The company does some production work of course (in fact, most of Avid’s revenue comes from production), but the bulk of orders that it sees are for prototyping. As the company’s name suggests, product development is a critical part of its DNA, and remains an important business activity. And all that development demands significant engineering resources—which is where that automation comes back in. Because engineers don’t need to babysit parts through every process step, they have more time to focus on DFAM, workflow development, and solving the trickiest problems for 3D printed parts and final products. ??Read the full story at the link in the comments.
