AVIATION 360 LLC is changing its business focus from aviation consulting to VTOL aircraft design and development. AV360 is now developing the world's first truly cruise-efficient VTOL aircraft by using the Stopped Rotor Concept to convert wingtip mounted, VTOL-efficient, low disc-loading rotor blades into cruise-efficient, extended wingtip ailerons. CFD analyses conducted thus far have shown that the aircraft promises to be efficient in VTOL mode and also in Cruise mode. Low disc-loading rotors are necessary for efficient VTOL, but problematic in cruise. With most large rotor designs, whether Slowed-Rotor, Stowed-Rotor, or Tilt-Rotor, the VTOL system reduces cruise efficiency. Analyses indicate that, with this Stopped Rotor design, the VTOL system promises to improve cruise efficiency. Preliminary CFD analyses indicate that the Lift over Drag ratio of this aircraft in cruise configuration could be as high as 18.
