Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, SD, is bidding a fond farewell to a piece of its history. ?? The School of Practical Nursing building is set to be torn down in the coming weeks. Built in 1951, it was the first in the nation designed for practical nursing education, shaping generations of nurses until its closure in 1985. As we say goodbye to the building, we're preserving its legacy by saving the cross above the entrance, the two corner stones and the original mailbox to honor its impact for years to come.

Through a new pilot program, we are proud to offer clinic-based food pantries for our patients who experience food insecurity in Sioux Falls and Parkston, SD. In collaboration with Feeding South Dakota, Avera Research Institute and Avera's Community Partnerships program, the food pantries are made possible by grant dollars from the federal Healthy Start grant to improve maternal and infant health.
