关于我们

Avenues for Youth partners with youth experiencing homelessness to achieve their dreams. Avenues does this by providing critical shelter, short-term housing and supportive services to homeless youth in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Avenues programs, which include shelter-based and transitional housing, host homes, and housing for young families are principles-based and evidence-informed. The principles grounding Avenues’ work include being trauma-informed and resilience practiced, non-judgmental, strength-based, and journey-oriented. Avenues Values: Equity, Community, Respect + Dignity, Trust, Liberation, and Anti-Oppression Avenues has significantly expanded in the past three years to support more youth and deepen its supportive services to ensure its impact on youth and the community is long-lasting and transformative. Today, Avenues supports more than 300 homeless youth annually through six programs. We operate two transitional living shelters, a young families program, and three community-based host home programs. Youth in Avenues' programs have onsite access to critical supports - mental health therapy, nursing, education and career supports. Thanks to our supporters and partner organizations, Avenues has supported thousands of youth experiencing homelessness in our 24 years of operation, helping youth transition from surviving the streets to thriving young adults.

Yesterday, staff members from Avenues joined over a thousand passionate Minnesotans to rally, meet with law makers, and attended hearings at the Minnesota State Capitol! We are proud to advocate for equitable housing policies along with so many neighbors, shelter workers, and individuals with lived experience of homelessness.

  • Join us March 27 at Building on Dreams to hear from Edwin, a Minneapolis-based fashion designer and artist. Edwin stayed at Minneapolis Avenues while finding work and his own apartment. During the event, Edwin will share about his love of fashion and his journey to stability. We can't wait to share this powerful story with you! Learn more and register at: https://lnkd.in/dACqasUs “As I got to working with the case managers [at Avenues] and getting employed, things started to look more and more fortunate for me...?I started finding how I wanted to live my life truly, which is, I wanna make clothes. I’ve always had a creative spirit... Clothing was the only thing that put me in that place, where I didn’t have a thought of negativity. " -Edwin, artist, designer, and former Avenues youth

  • Join us next Monday, March 10 at Queermunity to learn about becoming a ConneQT Host. ConneQT is a host home program that provides LGBTQI+ youth culturally responsive housing within their community of choice. In ConneQT, youth choose which community member they live with and those community members provide housing and food. ConneQT is committed to a philosophy of solidarity, not charity; we believe that communities can thrive when we share our resources from the perspective of ‘us and us’ and not ‘us and them’. In the last four years, 100% of youth in ConneQT have exited to their own stable housing, a testament to the power of youth’s agency! If you'd like more information, but can't attend, contact Ryan Berg at [email protected].

  • Thanks to our friends Hey Miles, the shelters are set with deodorant! Their consistent and generous support means that youth can dependably grab high quality deodorant for the foreseeable future. We're so lucky to have great local partners like yourselves!

  • Bravo to Boston Scientific! Over the last couple of years Boston Scientific has become a best friend to Avenues for Youth. From supporting LGBTQI+ youth in the ConneQT program, donating phones, hosting a campus wide conversation about youth homelessness, and sponsoring Building on Dreams. This last week our friends at BosSci dropped off much needed items for our Welcome Baskets. The HR team held a lunch and learn discussion and featured Avenues' top needed items. Every item will go into a welcome basket a youth receives upon entering Avenues to help make sure the house they are staying at feels like a home. Thank you Boston Scientific (again) for showing up for your community!!
