A note from Marc Lasry, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Avenue Capital Group: I am heartbroken at the passing of my mentor and great friend, David Bonderman.?He was a legend whose intellect was obvious the moment you met him.?While he always was the smartest person in the room, he was kind and generous with his time and always available to me when I needed help or advice. David had a love for life and a passion for adventure. I first met him when I was 29, and some of my most treasured memories are the times we traveled together.?He called me one day asking if I wanted to have dinner with him and he asked me to bring my passport.?Little did I know we were going to Marrakech, the city where I was born.?He had a meeting and wanted company for the day.?After his meeting, we had dinner and were back in New York, all within 24 hours. I was very close to my father, who was the kindest person in the world and my hero.?David was almost a second father to me and I will be forever grateful for his friendship and extraordinary support.?If it wasn’t for David, I would not be where I am today.?I loved him. ???? ????????????????????: In 1989, David hired Marc Lasry and Sonia Gardner to manage capital for a partnership affiliated with the Robert M. Bass Group, where David was then chief operating officer.?In 1997, David and TPG helped Avenue launch its first locked up institutional Avenue US Fund.?David’s extraordinary support has been key to Avenue’s success.
