Aventurine Studio One is an independent, transmedia entertainment and creative content company. We tell stories across digital and analog platforms, including books, games, video, music and fashion. Our stories are multicultural, multi-generational, and inspire preteen and young teens to create, dream, know themselves, and build a better world. Led by an all women team, we bring a female perspective to our content, design and products, imbuing stories and products with positivity, inclusivity, community and fun. Our Aventurine brand was created for female youth and teens, to empower girls to find their own magic within, on their road to self discovery. The Aventurine name, inspired by the magical gem, is the world key to our original content, based on the two origin book series: Coded for Greatness and The Fairy Godmother Academy. The Aventurine franchise is built around the shared fantasy world of Aventurine, a magical, enchanted land ruled by benevolent queens.

We had a huge turnout ( 5000 kids and parents) at Central Texas Teen and Kid Comic Con this weekend. Kids from 8-18 bought our Coded for Greatness Book 1-Queens of Aventurine, loved our #tattoos, #cosplay, and sold out our workshop on Writing Stories Across Forms. Many signed up to be a part of our Creative Council on https://IntoAventurine.co so they can help us create art and stories for the brand. Everyone is creative!

Just because we write a story with a ten year old girl as the hero, doesn’t mean it won’t resonate with everyone. This is the time of things with unmistakable heart and soul.
When Hayao Miyazaki set out to create Spirited Away, he made a radical observation about his audience: 10-year-old girls weren't actually interested in the romance and crush storylines that dominated anime. The medium was solving the wrong problem. "I felt this country only offered such things as crushes and romance to 10-year-old girls," he said. "Looking at my young friends, I felt this was not what they held dear in their hearts." This is what great design looks like. Instead of assuming he knew what young girls wanted, Miyazaki actually studied his audience. He discovered they were wrestling with deeper questions: Who am I becoming? What inner strength do I possess? How do I face overwhelming challenges? So he created Chihiro - not a magical girl with special powers, but a regular kid who starts out scared and uncertain. She doesn't get a romantic subplot or a magical transformation. Instead, she discovers the courage and capability that was inside her all along. The result? Spirited Away became the most successful film in Japanese history. The lesson for designers is profound: Your audience is probably deeper and more complex than you imagine. They don't want to be pandered to - they want to be understood.
