This Hispanic Heritage Month, we asked Stephanie Lopez Cruz, PE, ENV SP how her Puerto Rican heritage has impacted her career. She shared, "My heritage has provided me with unique opportunities throughout my professional journey. Right after college, I had the chance to help open a new office for a mainland firm in Puerto Rico. This role gave me greater exposure to the business side of engineering consulting than is typical for entry-level employees. After a few years working on the island, I made the decision to move to the mainland, where I was fortunate to have a fantastic network of Puerto Ricans and other Latinos in Florida. Being fluent in Spanish has been an invaluable asset in South Florida, but beyond the language, being Puerto Rican comes with a special sense of community. Puerto Ricans are always willing to help each other, even if we don’t know one another. This strong sense of connection has supported me both personally and professionally, time and again. Through this network, I’ve stayed connected with colleagues, engineering projects, and recruiting efforts back on the island. In my current role at AVCON, my Puerto Rican background and professional experience uniquely positioned me to manage our existing projects in Puerto Rico. I’ve had the opportunity to maintain and grow our presence in the local engineering industry while contributing to the island’s infrastructure development. My heritage is a constant source of passion in my work, and I am deeply committed to providing excellent professional services, fostering quality infrastructure, and creating opportunities for local professionals to thrive. Puerto Rico is my home, and I will continue to strive for its growth and success." #AVCON #HispanicHeritageMonth

The ACRP 09-22 WebResource for airfield electrical training for small airports is now available. This project, which began three years ago, has been issued by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Carl S. Johnson II - ACE, AVCON's Senior Aviation Lighting Specialist, was honored to be appointed as a member of the ACRP 09-22 Technical Panel that developed the RFP for “Guidance for Small Airports on Safe Maintenance of Airfield Electrical Systems.” The Technical Panel collaborated with ACRP and the selected Research Team to create this valuable resource. Airport clients, particularly those without full-time electrical staff, will greatly benefit from this program.
