Our team had the privilege of participating in the CaseOS cohort at The Holding Co., exploring the intersection of care and housing. Over six months, we examined emerging trends and opportunities to invest in the future of senior housing across the U.S. Most importantly, we focused on the critical policy reforms needed as we navigate uncharted territory with a new administration to ensure our aging population can receive care at home while remaining in their own communities. CareOS is one of our favorite programs to run at The Holding Co., and we recently wrapped a fascinating one up on the intersection of?care and housing. Here’s how it works: we gather a crew of brilliant people who are working on one topic but in a wide variety of sectors and roles, and we get them in a digital room to meet, share struggles and solutions, and learn from outside experts over a six-month period. There’s lots of discovery, solidarity, and laughter as we get to know one another, explore our shared challenges, and seed future collaborations. In this program, we explored the intersection of #care and #housing: from history to emerging trends, barriers to opportunities and new models. We collectively articulated what a more integrated approach to care and housing could look like, from the design of houses and community-level programming to policy reforms and the need for new financing models. We heard from visionary leaders like guaranteed income pioneer Aisha Nyandoro, urban planning scribe Diana Lind, corporate innovator Sharon Cilione-Berger, and housing innovator Ben Metcalf, and more. We gathered an incredible group of entrepreneurs, policy experts, advocates, and artists, including Aaron C. Jones, Avanlee Christine, Charles Lomax, Celeste Goyer, Dew-Anne Langcaon, Elizabeth White, Eunice Lin Nichols, Jake Rothstein, Janet Oh, Joshua Morrison, Kalen McNamara, Leland A., Megan Wagner, Nick Gesue, Nita Gomez Whitson, Patrick O., Peter Badgley, Ruby Vitatoe, M.S., Ryan Tarzy, Susan Hill, Alison Joucovsky, Tamara Knox, Danielle Cohn, Wendy Mendenhall, MBE. The group is still humming along without The Holding Co.’s official facilitation (the sign of true success for us!) and coming up with all kinds of cool ideas for culture and systems change. We’re proud to have played a role in seeding this growing movement.
