The American Avalanche Association (A3) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to professional excellence in avalanche safety, education and research in the United States. Members include snow science researchers, search and rescue professionals, avalanche forecasters, educators, professional guides, athletes, snow safety officers, snow rangers, ski patrollers, technicians and explosive specialists. A3 is comprised of three pillars: education, publications and outreach. Education: A3 designs and certifies avalanche training programs in the United States for recreationists and professionals. Publications: Founded in 1986 as The Avalanche Review, the 30-year-old, industry-leading organization serves avalanche professionals and their beneficiaries. Outreach: A3 is the backbone and operations steward for Avalanche.org, America's real-time avalanche safety platform.
