Any load can be a flexible load with enough battery energy storage capacity. Duke University researchers recently published a report finding that the grid has significant opportunity for new loads, including in ERCOT, where they determined 10 GW of potential load integration capacity at a 0.5% annual curtailment. A 0.5% curtailment rate represents new facilities being able to support themselves (using no grid energy) during peak demand times for about seven days out of the year, or 177 hours. It will be interesting to see how the ISOs respond to this report, and if they add further incentives for flexible loads that streamline otherwise lengthy interconnection queues. https://lnkd.in/g-stAU_K

Everyone is buzzing about Stargate, but powering the more than $100 billion project will be no simple feat. ??“The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) expects that data centers could consume as much as 12% of all power produced in the U.S. by 2028, up from 4.4% in 2023.”? New developments requiring large loads of #electricity need to invest in ensuring a reliable supply of that power.
