What do you think about advanced technologies in archaeology today ? AUTOMATA launches a survey gauging how 3D modelling, non-destructive archaeometry, AI and robotics are perceived and applied in archaeological practices today. The survey is addressed to all kinds of actors working – or having worked – in the archaeological domain. Though appreciated, experience with 3D modelling, non-destructive archaeometry, AI and robotics is not required to fulfil the survey. Your answers will help us better understand the current uses and expectations surrounding these technologies, and guide us in ensuring that AUTOMATA best meets the needs of the professionals in the field. They will be collected and summarized in a report to be published in the coming months. The survey is anonymous and will remain open until April 18, 2025. Thank you for completing it and share it in your networks ! More info on the survey and its questionnaire are accessible on https://lnkd.in/e-E57EBS #EchoesEccch #Eccch #CulturalHeritageCloud #Digitalheritage #Horizoneurope #AutomataEccch

ECHOES Consultation: Help shape the Cultural Heritage Cloud We are pleased to announce that the?ECHOES Consultation?is now live and available on the ECHOES website. We count on your support to spread the word about this important initiative withing your projects and networks. The ECHOES Consultation aims to map diverse cultural heritage communities, understanding their needs and expectations for the?Cultural Heritage Cloud. Your contributions will help shape the Cloud?with and for?heritage communities. As a first step, we have launched an?online questionnaire?to identify heritage professionals and researchers and explore their use of digital tools in daily work. The results will guide the development of the Cloud’s infrastructure, tools, services, training, and community-building efforts. Who can participate??All cultural heritage stakeholders, including professionals, researchers, computer scientists, developers, institutions, and umbrella organisations. Deadline:?The questionnaire will remain open until?April 2025. How to help??You are warmly invited to participate by?filling out the questionnaire and sharing it within your networks. Access the online questionnaire by clicking on https://lnkd.in/exqFAMjU #EchoesEccch #Eccch #CulturalHeritageCloud #Digitalheritage #Horizoneurope #AutomataEccch

ECHOES Cascading Grants: Funding opportunity for Cultural Heritage Organisations The?First Call of the ECHOES Cascading Grants Programme?supports cultural heritage institutions in contributing datasets for use within the Cultural Heritage Cloud. Proposals should define the dataset’s intended user community, purpose, expected outcomes, and broader benefits. Applicants should also outline how they envision using the Cloud for their project. Funding:?Up to?€60,000?for a maximum of?12 projects. Who can apply??Any CHI based in a?Horizon Europe country, either independently or as the lead partner of a consortium. We particularly encourage applications from?smaller, medium-sized, and under-resourced CHIs, as well as?interdisciplinary consortia. Deadline:?Proposals must be submitted by?15 May 2025 (23:59 CEST). How to apply??The submission platform will open in?April 2025, and an?Info Day?will be organised in the coming weeks. The new AUTOMATA project has been disclosed both to the academic and professional communities during a kick-off meeting organized by the Pisa University on the 22nd?October 2024. In the beautiful setting of the Gipsoteca di Arte Antica, representatives of the 12 Partner organisations from 7 countries composing the AUTOMATA consortium have presented the objectives, research focuses and perspectives of this EU-funded collaborative research project seeking to enhance the documentation and knowledge building about the past by enabling low-cost and time-efficient digitisation of archaeological objects. Using AI-augmented robotics and sensors, AUTOMATA will create 3D models enriched with archaeometry data, providing a practical and cost-effective solution for digitisation. Robotic tools with newly developed AI methodologies will improve the digitisation process of visible and non-visible properties of archaeological finds, enhance the robustness and efficiency of 3D digitisation, improve surface appearance acquisition, and integrate 2D representations. This approach streamlines data acquisition, aided by human-AI collaboration, and, in turn, the collection of big, well-identified data will empower the development of AI models.?This cost-effective technology will democratise access to digitisation, benefiting the Cultural Heritage community at large, including public and private organisations dealing with culture, education, ICT, museums, creative companies and media, aid preservation methods and restorers’ work, and foster inclusive knowledge-sharing via a dedicated crowdsourcing platform. The data collected by AUTOMATA will be seamlessly integrated into the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), a shared platform designed to facilitate collaboration among heritage professionals and researchers, and?provide them with access to data, scientific resources, training, and advanced digital tools tailored to suit their needs. This platform is developed by?ECHOES EU?(European Cloud for Heritage OpEn Science), an overarching EU-funded project that brings together fragmented communities of the Cultural Heritage field into a new community around the Digital Commons. See article on UNIPINEWS about the kick-off meeting in Pisa: https://lnkd.in/es7bZR_A Stay tuned for further news about the way AI and robotics can benefit our understanding of the past !
